Not only is Ed Krumeich one of the more articulate progressive challengers (0.00 / 0)
he also has the best singing voice.

Heard him last night at a shindig for the proposed Greenwich Arts Center.

Is Farricker coming back? (0.00 / 0)

17th District (Avon & Canton) (0.00 / 0)
Brett Eisenlohr of Avon will face off against Republican Tom Harrison, chairman of the Avon Board of Finance.  Brett is a retired Avon police sergeant and solar power advocate who has served on Avon's board of finance.

The 17th House seat is held by state Rep. Kevin Witkos, a three-term Republican who is not seeking re-election because he opted to run for the 8th District Senate seat.  Witkos won the nomination a few days ago and inspired fellow Republicans with this:

Witkos, a Canton police sergeant, stressed all the familiar GOP themes: he painted Democrats as squishy liberals who relish raising taxes, believe convicted felons ought to be able to vote and think the government has a right to seize your home.

Still trying to figure out what a "squishy liberal" is.

run first, ideas later (0.00 / 0)
Eisenlohr didn't impress me with his initial announcement (Courant, 3/15):

Asked for specific ideas on issues he cited as important, Eisenlohr said that announcing his candidacy for the nomination is the first step, and that he is developing his positions on issues. Generally, he said, he's going to rely on his 2 1/2 decades of service in public safety "to advocate some issues related to public safety."

Regarding energy and health care, he said: "I've been doing a lot of research, and I hope to come up with a plan that's going to address those issues."

I would hope people would run for office because they have ideas, not the other way around.

ouch (0.00 / 0)
Way to blow a softball, dude. Potential candidates should clip that out and save it as item #1 in "things you never want to say to a newspaper in your district."

Basic familiarity with the existing proposals would have spared him some embarrassment ("I'm eager for towns to start saving healthcare dollars with the Democrats' healthcare pooling plan" or similar). Plus, if he's already a solar power advocate, how did he blow it on energy?

52nd House District (0.00 / 0)
including Somers, Stafford, and Union - now represented by Republican Real Estate Agent and Medical Marijuana advocate Penny Bacchiochi - has a new Democratic challenger: Arlene Avery. She faces a big challenge, Penny is quite popular, come from politically connected family in Stafford Springs, and lives in Somers. Union, CT, fielded about than 400 votes last election, Nov '06.

I refuse to let my pragmatism get in the way of my idealism.

Don't forget the 94th (0.00 / 0)
We have a race here and I am in it.

State Representative Gary Holder-Winfield (CT-94)
"History, that is to be written tomorrow... to be read by our children...to serve as their guide is written in our actions today.  A greater call to responsibility I have not known"

Kathy Hale in the 14th House District (0.00 / 0)
Another strong democrat running for the House is Kathy Hale.  http://www.timappleton.com/Kat...  Kathy is a Community Activist, Tax Reform Advocate and progressive - just about as different as you can get from the Republican incumbent.

Sherri Vogt - 50th House District (0.00 / 0)
Sherri Vogt, http://www.sherrivogt.com/abou... and news clip  http://www.telegram.com/apps/p... is running against Republican incumbent Mike Alberts to represent Woodstock, Hampton, Eastford, Pomfret and Brooklyn.

Sherri worked for the Select Committee on Children and as an assistant to House Democratic Leadership and presently working for the Commerce Committee.

She was also a tireless and amazing worker for Joe Courtney's campaign.
