Pics from the 2008 Democratic 4th District Nominating Convention

The complete story is available in the Connecticut Post.

Sue :: Pics from the 2008 Democratic 4th District Nominating Convention
The convention was held at the new Cesar Batalla School in Bridgeport. School principal Hector Sanchez seen here greeting former mayor John Fabrizi.

One day, Maura, I'll get a picture of you with your eyes open.

Secretary of State Susan Bysewicz shown here with unnamed friends:

Jim Himes seen here talking with a delegate:

Mary Himes and Beryl Kaufman, Executive Director  of CACLD, The Connecticut Association for Children and Adults with Learning Disabilities:

George Jepsen, Former Chair of the Democratic Party of Connecticut  George provided the election of Permanent Chair during the ceremony.

Emma and Linley Himes, who led the Pledge of Allegiance. This picture was taken immediately after the 'Whoopsie, did I pop her balloon?' moment.

Don Carlson of Old Greenwich. He and Himes were at Harvard together (he taught, Jim attended). Don remembers they first met when Jim submitted one of the best papers he'd ever read from an undergraduate.

Max Medina and son:

Diane Farrell, who provided the Welcome, seen here with State Rep. Don Clemons, Jr..

TParty:

Do I need to tell you his name???? Himself is closely followed by Marc Bradley. Almost like the old days (sniff).

George Jepsen and Jim Himes getting the ball rolling:

Sal, greeting delegates:

And finally, Ed Anderson, discussing the wisdom of running as Vice President on the Obama ticket (seen here with Ned Lamont):

Ed, anything is possible after CFL.

Sorry for the early morning screw-up.

Not a word in Jim's hometown newspaper Greenwich Time (4.00 / 1)
In the more Democratic city of Stamford, Stamford Advocate published an article about the nominating convention on the front page.  But Greenwich Time, centered in Jim Himes' hometown, had not a single word about the nominating convention.  Of course, they published a front page above-the-fold article over the weekend about Chris Shays' nomination.  But of course, Shays is a Republican.

It seems that anti-Democrat bias is hard-wired into Greenwich Time.

Small front page article today (0.00 / 0)
but no picture.

Of course there's a front page article with full color picture of Scott Frantz and accepting nomination for State Senator "Skippy" Nickerson's seat.

Pretty much par for the course.

But not Dem. convention.

Poll has distorted question, but Jim is winning so far.

That's what the Greenwich Post is for.  Picking up the slack of the Time.

Not that I have a bias or anything for the fine Posters.

Jim gave an inspiring speech (4.00 / 2)
he had me all verklempt* at one point when he was talking about how he grew up in a household headed by a single working mom and said something to the effect of "some people might have called it a broken home - but it wasn't."

That warmed the cockles of this single working mom's heart. As I think it was Max "Funky Cold" Medina said, "Jim's good people". Except he said it in Spanish. Oh, and I think all anti-Shay's speeches should, from now on, be bi-lingual, just to include "BASTA!" Enough!! 'Cause it sounds so good, and just enough like... well, anyway...

I'm looking forward to taking my kids to visit Congressman Himes in his Washington Office next year. And I'm starting work on the victory poem, because it's such a bitch to find anything that rhymes with Harvard.

*Yiddish, for starting to tear up

Great pix - thanks, Sue (0.00 / 0)
Looks like everyone had a fabulous time, and congrats to Jim Himes on his nomination.

Hey tparty (0.00 / 0)
