Bush Protest News

by: mikect

Thu Apr 24, 2008 at 19:12:44 PM EDT

A final update on the protest against President Bush in Kent, beginning at noon on Friday.

We will gather in the Warren Congregational Church parking lot across from the Warren Town Hall and stage our actions from there. We are being told by the State Police that people who try to enter Henderson Road without a invitation to the fundraiser will be turned away. Also, any vehicle parked on nearby sidestreets that have "any tire on a public road or is illegally parked on private property" will be towed. We will shuttle people as close to the event as possible.

Here is a map of 4 Sackett Hill Rd in Warren CT, the gathering spot.  It is at the intersection of Routes 341 and 45.  You can also attend a Hartford protest if you can't make it to Kent.  The Litchfield County Times covers local and statewide organizing efforts.  It sounds like the State Police are trying to push the protest as far away as they can.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, the Cappiello campaign disclosed many of their new contributions, totalling $100,200 thus far.  In addition, the Cappiello-CT Victory 08 fund has raised $52,600.

As Gabe suggests, you can help offset Cappiello's big money contributors with your homegrown contributions.  Finally, Chris Murphy is using the occasion to make his own appeal (below).

From Murphy's e-mail:

Guess who's coming to dinner this Friday?

Knowing they face an uphill battle to win back Connecticut's 5th congressional district this November, the Republican Party has asked George W. Bush to jet in and raise money for my opponent.

That's the same George Bush who put American troops into Iraq without an exit strategy.  The same George Bush who authorized illegal wiretapping and torture.  The same George Bush who doesn't know the price of a gallon of gas - and who has no plan to revive our failing economy.

My opponent, however, is embracing George W. Bush.  He's asking a few wealthy donors to pay thousands of dollars for a grip-and-grin opportunity with the president.  Instead of standing up for the voters of the 5th district, David Cappiello would rather stand shoulder-to-shoulder with George Bush - and then take the money.

That's why I'm asking for your help. My campaign is creating the "Bush Challenge." We're looking for 1,000 people who will contribute $50 - or more - to match the expected Republican take from this event.  Please make a contribution now - and join us in challenging Bush on the economy, on the war and on civil liberties:

MurphyForCongress.org

David Cappiello is counting on George Bush to bring in money from a few wealthy individuals.  I'm asking you to show George Bush and my opponent there are thousands of regular people across the 5th district supporting my campaign and what I am fighting for in Congress.

Ours is a grassroots campaign - energized and already taking on the Republican machine.  But we need to make sure we have the resources to beat back the negative attacks the Republicans will launch from their Karl Rove playbook.

That's why I'm asking you to be one of 1,000 individuals powering our campaign with a $50, $100, or $250 contribution this week.

MurphyForCongress.org

George Bush can fly in and out this Friday - but the voters of the 5th district will have to live with the consequences of his failed policies for a long time.  By embracing George Bush, my opponent is clearly showing he is for more of the same.

Join me in challenging George Bush this week.  Send a clear, unmistakable message that the voters of our district are for an end to the war in Iraq, for an energy policy that works, and for a restoration of civil liberties.  For us, it's not business as usual.

Every best wish,

Christopher S. Murphy

P.S. And I'll make sure to let you know how we do with our "Bush Challenge."  Please go and make a contribution now!
