| • Lamont keeps getting better and better. If anyone had just dropped in on this event without knowing anything about Ned Lamont, they would swear this guy has been in politics all his life. His stump speech is heartfelt and assured. He takes questions from the (unscreened) audience with aplomb and gives honest answers that transcend the usual soundbite non-answers people have come to expect from politicians like Joe Lieberman. Lamont is starting to use an outside-the-beltway, throw-the-bums-out approach that I think will resonate with a lot of people, regardless of their political persuasion. Expect him to pick up some Republican votes in the general election in November.
• Lamont is getting more attention. Unlike some earlier campaign events I've attended, this one was packed!
• Lamont is getting attention where it counts. At least three Democratic Town Committee members (that I'm aware of) were present. And unlike Joe, Lamont doesn't limit his meetings to political insiders.
• Ned Lamont told a representative of the Yale Democrats that if they issued a formal invitation to him and Joe Lieberman for a public debate at Yale, he would guarantee that at least one candidate would show up.
• The campaign is staffing up. I met Edward Vale, who is the new 3rd CD coordinator. He's a battle-tested political veteran despite his obvious youth. Presumably there will be (or already is) a coordinator for each CD. The campaign is scooping up other bright young people, some from Yale.
• The campaign will have a Ned Lamont DVD available for wide distribution by early May. Now every Nedhead in the state can have a ready-made campaign tool to share with friends, neighbors, and undecided voters.
• The Yale Daily News had a nice article on the event.
• UPDATE. Another nice account from the blog Future DV. |
