Joe Lieberman has decided to visit Milford (CT) on October 14th to attend a Republican fundraising event where he will provide an endorsement for the Republican candidate for Mayor.
There, that's as calmly as I can put it.
This was announced by the New Haven Register ("This just in: Newspapers Suck!") in an article which lists all of the contact information for attending and donating to the Republican fundraiser.
emphasis and commentary added Lieberman stands by Milford's 'best candidate'

MILFORD - U.S. Sen. Joseph I. Lieberman, I-Conn., is standing by the man who supported him during his rough Senate re-election campaign last year.
Lieberman will make a stop in support of the Republican Mayor James L. Richetelli Jr. at Daniel Street, a downtown nightclub, Oct. 14.
Lieberman spokesman Daniel Gerstein [remember him?] said Lieberman will show support for the "best candidate," which the senator believes is Richetelli.
Here is a photo of Lieberman and soon-to-be-former-Mayor Richetelli from their Perp Walk around the Milford Green (1/2 block from Daniel Street Club) when Lieberman visited with the Republican Town Committee during the General Election last year.
The article ends with the following outrageous bid for donations to the Republican party:
The event begins at 2:30 p.m. and is open to the public. For more information or to purchase tickets call (860) 878-8280.
Please do not call this number since it is someone's house in another part of the state.
There is more below what we usually call "the fold" in deference to dead tree journalists, who used to have some sort of respect due to them.
He [Gerstein] said Lieberman continues to caucus with Democrats in the Senate, but he is "not constrained by party politics." He said that is a reason why Lieberman receives support from Democrats and Republicans, and why he is willing to endorse Republicans as well.
When Lieberman campaigned as an independent for the Senate against Democratic-endorsed candidate Ned Lamont, Richetelli endorsed Lieberman for the position. The Milford Democratic Town Committee endorsed Lamont.
"Obviously, Senator Lieberman appreciates Mayor Richetelli's support last year," Gerstein said.
No shit, Sherlock.
The rest of the article is about a bogus photo op event staged by Lieberman and Richetelli during the summer to pre-announce funding (not yet approved by Congress) for a park cleanup in Milford. The quotes from the Democrats, Town Committee Chairman Rich Smith and Democratic Party Mayoral Candidate Kerri Rowland, are from articles and press releases in August. Today is October 7th.
Followup? you ask.

I hope everyone is sufficiently pissed that Joe Lieberman is inserting himself in Milford politics and endorsing Richetelli.
NOW read the utterly brain dead article (attached) from the New Haven Register that actually gives the PHONE NUMBER to get TICKETS to the Republican fund raiser featuring Lieberman on October 14th. Dan Gerstein (Lieberman's spokesperson) was quoted, because his press release was the source of the article.
Write letters. Call the editor. This is unethical. Someone should be fired at this stupid, worthless newspaper.
Mike Brown
Remember, don't call that number.
Just for the record, I was sitting next to Kerri when she answered James Tinley's (Register reporter) questions on the phone. She did not say much when asked about the Lieberman endorsement, but she did say, "The only endorsement I am interested in is the endorsement I will get from the people of Milford on November 6th." She also said, "I hope Joe Lieberman brings the $520,000 check he promised back in August."
Neither one of these quotes were used in the article. Instead, he used part of a quote from an August press release. He also used a selected quote from Rich Smith's comments and incorrectly paraphrased his comments about Lieberman and the Iraq War.
Republicans will continue to control the message unless we speak up. Call, write, yell!
Mike Brown
Call. Write. Yell.
