On To Syria!

Just your monthly reminder from the op-ed pages of the Wall Street Journal that Connecticut currently has an absolutely insane person as its Junior Senator:

When Congress reconvenes next month, we should set aside whatever differences divide us on Iraq and send a clear and unambiguous message to the Syrian regime, as we did last month to the Iranian regime, that the transit of al Qaeda suicide bombers through Syria on their way to Iraq is completely unacceptable, and it must stop.

We in the U.S. government should also begin developing a range of options to consider taking against Damascus International [Airport], unless the Syrian government takes appropriate action, and soon.

You can reach the offices of said insane person at the following numbers:

(860) 549-8463 Voice
(800) 225-5605 In CT
(860) 549-8478 Fax
(202) 224-4041 Voice
(202) 224-9750 Fax

Update: Of course, while Joe continues to agitate for expanding the disastrous war in Iraq into Iran and Syria, guess where most of the foreign fighters in Iraq are coming from?

So if they aren't from Iran, where are they from? Saudi Arabia--- 45%!....

...Has any general or Bush administration official called a press conference to denounce Saudi Arabia? No. Has Joe Lieberman threatened it with a war? No. Everything is being blamed on Iran because powerful American special interests want to get Iran, regardless of the facts.

Update 2: ThinkProgress has a fantastic post up chronicling the history of Lieberman's failed predictions and duplicity on Iraq and Syria over the past four and half years. Specifically:

In an April 9, 2003 interview with NBC, Lieberman said the U.S. had "earned some strength" in its position vis a vis Syria because of the "mighty display of force in Iraq." In fact, the very opposite of Lieberman's prediction has occurred. The war in Iraq has bolstered the Assad regime in Syria, which now rests more comfortably knowing U.S. military options are limited. Moreover, Syria's influence in the region has grown, not diminished, as a result of the Iraq war.

In an attempt to begin to repair the administration's disastrous course in the Middle East, Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) led a bipartisan congressional delegation to Damascus recently to personally address U.S. concerns about Syria's influence in Iraq. Pelosi delivered a "clear and unambiguous message" to Bashar Assad, "insisting that his government block militants seeking to cross into Iraq and join insurgents there."

Lieberman's response to Pelosi's efforts to address Syrian support for terror was to attack, criticize, and smear her....

So Dodd tries to impugn Obama (4.00 / 1)
on this false crap about Pakistan. Yet he remains silent on Gung-ho Joe Lieberman?

This simply will not stand. And I've been kind and open to Senator Dodd all over the internets.

Time for Chris Dodd to prove whether he's just another full-of-crap DC politician, or that he actually believes in some of the shit he puts forward.

suggested MLN book project (0.00 / 0)
I had an idea for a book - compile all of Joe Lieberman's WSJ editorials, footnote every crazy ass thing and every statement that was factually suspect, and then publish it as a little reference on Lulu.com.

I think it would be a good book. There aren't many biographies of Lieberman and when people search for information a straight forward book taking about his craziness one statement at a time would serve readers well. I would write it myself but I have the attention span of a dog chasing butterflies.

I suspect that so do most voters (4.00 / 1)
have the attention span of a dog chasing butterflies, that is.

More for history than politics... (0.00 / 0)
I think little books like the one I had in mind have more value to historians than in the context of today's politics. It will be hard to reconstruct Lieberman's central role in the media narratives if you are looking backwards 50 years from now. In the here and now I see all the WSJ editorials as part of a whole, an ogre-like foreign policy of aggressive war. In hindsight they just might look like so many data points lost in the fog.

not dissing your idea (4.00 / 1)
joejoejoe, I was only making a wry observation.  Maybe if enough short attention span people (who seem to be in great number among voters) pooled a string of individual brief efforts, a manuscript would emerge.

its time for dodd to say some thing (0.00 / 0)
i agree it ill show leader ship
