CT-04: Jim Himes' Impressive Fundraising

by: spazeboy

Mon Jul 09, 2007 at 19:27:13 PM EDT

The imaginary Christopher Shays bobblehead that intermittently whispers in my ear just said "Holy shit!"

It turns out that Jim Himes, the Democrat challenging Shays for the 4th Congressional District seat in 2008 raised $352,000 in the second quarter.

Peter Urban broke the news at the CT Post:

The early total is a record for a challenger in the 4th Congressional District and will likely clear the way for Himes to capture the Democratic nomination next summer without a primary. State Rep. Jim Shapiro, D-Stamford, announced last week that he would not run for the seat that Shays has held since 1987.

"I'm not willing to say it shuts out anybody but it is a good sign of momentum," Himes said Monday in a telephone interview.

Another good sign of momentum is this number: 610

The Himes for Congress website signed up 610 founding members before the end of the last quarter. You can still show your support by clicking here to contribute, and here to volunteer.

WOW! (4.00 / 1)
Hell of an impressive quarter from Jim, this really speaks to both the breadth and depth of his support and his dedication (fundraising really sucks). That number has to have Van Hollen sitting back in his chair.

Congratulations to everyone involved!

Farrell has led the way.. (0.00 / 0)
If Himes knocks off Shays, a good portion of the credit needs to go to Diane Farrell, Nancy DiNardo, and Adam Wood.

Wha? (0.00 / 0)
Seriously?  Thats quite a turn around from yesterday!

Where did that come from? (0.00 / 0)
Sorry, but that was just too absurd.  I'm not going to respond to that in public.

I'd love to see (0.00 / 0)
... the donor overlap. That would illustrate how much of Jim's success is due to machine support.
