Educational Corner: Energy Policy w/Rep. Fontana

by: mattw

Wed Jun 13, 2007 at 18:00:48 PM EDT

Sometimes I complain a bit when video clips aren't edited down, and if you're like me, you'll want to skip this. But, if you'd like to get a brief overview of Connecticut energy policy – and a summary of the changes made in this year's legislative session – there are probably very few sources better than this 15-minute presentation made by House Energy and Technology committee chairman Steve Fontana, which I taped last night.

Energy Forum w/Steve Fontana

If anyone would like to see the other two presentations (the President of UI – summary, suppliers are to blame for the high prices, not distributors – or Bob Wall, who gave a rundown of the state's renewable energy programs) or the Q+A session, leave a note in comments.

I love the video. What program did you use?

It's pretty straight (0.00 / 0)
I did the few titles and fades in Final Cut though.

If you're talking about the video quality, that's probably more due to the way Dailymotion compresses their videos compared to youtube or others -- most people prefer one over the other, DM (along with Blip.tv) can be a bit crisper but if you're using standard DV format as a source they also sometimes pick up the horizontal "stripes" from that medium which can be a little annoying.

I mostly just thought it was cool to have the MyLeftNutmeg.com logo in there. I've got iMovie HD, but I can't figure out how to do something like that.

MLN logo looked great! (0.00 / 0)
I loved the look of the logo on the black background.  Matt rocks.

I don't know if you have any graphics programs (photoshop, illustrator, etc), but if you don't, you can make a "title card" using TextEdit or any other word processor in landscape mode. Type whatever you like, add any graphics you have by copy and pasting them into the window, then go to print the file and make it a PDF. iMovie will let you animate that or fade it in / out with no hassle.

Matt, Great Job! (4.00 / 1)
Thanks for posting this. Good to see that Steve Fontana is on the ball. I spoke to my state senator and he told me it was a good bill. Good for the energy suppliers, maybe. I hope that they can fix this bill the way that Fontana says it should be fixed.

With energy companies manipulating the price, and with the 100% resale markup, we consumers are getting screwed. True, there's a lot of good stuff in the bill, but it doesn't get at the core problem.  I can't believe the Senate let this bill go through the way it did. What a bunch of morons.

Is there anything we voters/energy consumers can do to see that this bill gets fixed?

"Is there anything we voters/energy consumers can do to see that this bill gets fixed?"

I hope to do a couple posts on this subject -- I've been asking a number of legislators what can be done in the Feb-May session next year, which is an interesting topic.
