Trust in Joe

by: Tim Tagaris

Fri Dec 15, 2006 at 05:08:35 AM EST

(If you work for a newspaper in Connecticut, please continue to not report on these words. We might trust you more if you did and then, well, we'd be hypocrites. Or something. - promoted by Matt Browner Hamlin)

Cause he's been so right, for so long.

Video from debate with Ned Lamont -- July 6, 2006.

video's worth a million words (0.00 / 0)
CTBlogger was right.

Thanks and welcome.

stark (4.00 / 1)
It's hard to envision a more stark contrast in positions than Lieberman's faux anti-war stance in this video and his endorsement of sending more troops to Iraq yesterday. Really, this is a complete 180 on the most important issue in our country today and no one in the press is saying a word about it.

"A Man of Pinciple" (0.00 / 0)
My ass! Ya know, I watched close to 3 hours of that conference they had at Yale that was broadcast on CSpan (thanks to whoever posted the reminder about it) and listening to Lanny Davis describe Lieberman as such a man of principle just made me want to wretch.

It was interesting, though, to gain insight into the thought process of the Lieberman camp, which consisted of the oft failed DLC methodology of campaigning on the left during the primary, and then moving to the middle for the general election. In essence, what Lanny described is how NOT to be a man of principle, tailoring your world view to whoever you seek to please at any given time. So, in Lanny's world, if your candidate needs to sound at least somewhat anti-war to appeal to the primary voters, and then somewhat pro-war to appeal to the wider audience in the general election, that's ok, because it's really all about winning the election.

I guess if you have no principles yourself, it's hard to recognize when your friends also have none.

The one thing he was right about was that Ned didn't do an effective enough job of getting his message to the unaffiliated voters. Lieberman was therefore able to successfully define himself as the guy in the middle who appeals to "all the people" while Ned was the guy way off to the left.

But there was no acknowledgment whatsoever that the whole image that Lieberman crafted was a facade. And no comprehension or admission of the fact that the Democratic party literally abandoned their own candidate and may have cost his campaign the election by asking Lamont to lay off Lieberman for a while so they could persuade him to drop out after the primary. Literally everyone on at least one of the 2 panels agreed that the 2 weeks of silence that the Lamont campaign gave to the party cost him the election. Polling backed that up, indicating that most voters had made their minds up very early in the race.

If anyone wants to see the conference and can't get it on CSpan, I've got the whole thing recorded on the puter.

They didn't mention the use of money to get votes, either, did they? (4.00 / 1)
I guess that would have been too blunt and direct, and there were impressionable students in the audience.

I saw a lot of the first part yesterday afternoon - had to tear myself away to go do some work -- and I'm hoping to see it again.  I want to brand into my consciousness and really process what is in that show.

It may not be the best source of facts about the campaign, but it's fascinating opportunity to study the characters (and character - singular) involved in the campaigns.  I look at it as input on how the different people see things and operate.  Lanny Davis is a case study in and of himself.  The media portion of the show was also instructive -- seeing & hearing the people behind the bylines "explained a lot".

(Thanks, Tessa, for your original heads up on this program.)

Joe's words: More Troops (4.00 / 1)
Today's Courant
BAGHDAD, Iraq -- Backed by Sen. Joe Lieberman, Sen. John McCain took his controversial proposal for curbing Iraq's sectarian violence to Baghdad on Thursday, calling for an additional 15,000 to 30,000 U.S. troops and joining a congressional delegation in telling Iraq's prime minister he must break his close ties with a radical Shiite cleric.

Lieberman, D-Conn., and Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., said they agreed with the Arizona Republican's call for a troop increase.

"We need more, not less, U.S. troops here," Lieberman said.

You gave me an idea (0.00 / 0)
Tim, I've just started something I call "Lieberman Watch" on my blog, where I welcome people to submit examples like yours where Joe has gone back on his campaign promises.  I'm hoping this may be useful to get the message to the MSM that they're not doing anything to hold Lieberman accountable.

With enough concrete examples of Joe's hypocrisy posted online, we can influence the public dialogue and expose him for what we all know he is; and hopefully diminish the amount of damage he's capable of causing.

Say it ain't so, Joe. Say it ain't so...

Meanwhile this fucktard put out ads like this one during the campaign.

I agree; I can't wait to use "fucktard" in an article headline.  Just to see it reproduced in the Leftyblogs and CTweblogs lists will be a hoot!

..for the Rovian tactics used during the campaign by Lieberman, basically using one's own negatives (e.g missed votes, siding w Republicans, moneybags, etc) against your opponent in order to deflect criticism.

Welcome back to the jungle (0.00 / 0)
Exposing Lieberman should be too easy seeing that we all have hours upon hours of video on him. If I wasn't so busy changing diapers and annoying Danbury Mayor Mark Boughton's, I'd be back on the frontlines with you guys.
I'll be back in DINOBoy's case once CTLauryn learns how to sleep throughout the night without screaming for a bottle.

We will welcome you back... (0.00 / 0)

Welcome back, Tim. Hope to see more diaries from you.

Joe puts the LIE in his name. (0.00 / 0)
Can't stand this guy. He is the epitome of a slick politician who will say anything his constituents want to hear, and then once he's back in office does the complete opposite. When is he going to do a Zell Miller and actually leave the party?
