We lost the battle but we WON the war!

First of all, let me commend every single person who volunteered time, money or resources to the Lamont campaign or to ANY Democratic campaign this year. While we did suffer a defeat yesterday we cannot forget the significance of this race.

Our win on August 8th emboldened the national Democratic party to run hard against the war and other national issues and that is why we were able to win back the House of Representatives and, probably, the Senate.

My best goes out to all those who dropped everything to work for Ned and to all the members of the Net Roots Movement who were so emotionally and physically invested in this campaign. It's tough to lose an election, but I take comfort knowing that the blow of this small-picture defeat, however painful, was lightened by a big-picture victory!

As Democrats, we are the righteous ones. In elections not only must we win and turn out the most votes, we must overcome a slew of dirty tricks and cheating on the part of our opponents. Many joke that if I am considering a life in politics as a Democrat I should get used to this feeling but I don't believe that's true.

A new day is dawning for the Democratic party and, subsequently, for America. I'm proud to have been a part of it. You all should be too.

Good luck in future electoral pursuits.

See you in '08

Chris

Hopefully, we'll see you a lot sooner than that.

Municipal elections are next Fall and the campaign to put a more progressive tinge on DTCs across the state begins today.

I see it very very differently... (0.00 / 0)
I'm proud of Dean,  for whom we can attribute much of this success, and the people who worked their butts off.  And of a real American hero and gentleman, Ned Lamont.

But I'm ashamed of the party insiders...those who voted FOR the Bankrupcy Bill, AGAINST Habeus, FOR Cluster BOMBS, FOR wiretapping, and on and on I could go.
Remember that's why we sought CHANGE AND REFORM within the Democratic Party/
Instead that same 'Party' deliberately worked against not just one of their own seats and members, but against the grass roots people and an election result they didn't care for.

Our own party leader clique worked to stomp on the peoples will.

And we let them, trading 'caucusing' for the actual seat.

I leave the party today, with a tear in my eye.

Dedicated to a Clean and Lean Democratic Party or Bust!

Don't! (0.00 / 0)
If you leave, they win. We need to take the Party back, but we need your help.

It's been fun. ;-)

I considered doing the same thing (0.00 / 0)
that would accomplish nothing.  I too was very angry at the lack of committment that the party hierarchy showed Lamont, but leaving is what they want.  They don't want to think about new ideas.  They're just a bunch of lazy SOB's who want to maintain the status quo.

We definitely made a splash at the higher levels, but we need to concentrate on the local level and rebuild from the ground up.  People like Mayor Ben Lathrop of Norwich, Jim Ammann, and others have to be brought to task and purged from the system.  Their antiquated thinking has no place in the political arena.  The new issues are accessible health care, alternative energy, improved education, and the environment.  All these issues are linked and a successful resolution of these issues is necessary for a vibrant economy.  Dinosaurs like Lathrop and apes like Ammann (Mr. I Will Crush You) have no place in this debate.

In closing, do not leave the party.  If you do, dirtbags like Lieberman, Ammann, Lathrop, and whoever the registrar of New Haven is win.  You wouldn't want that to happen, right?
