Lieberman Campaign Gloats Over Its Thuggery

by: BranfordBoy

The Courant is reporting that Joe Lieberman's blog (I can't bring myself to wallow in that filth personally) is not only taking full responsibility for its heinous disruption of a senior center event, but bragging about it.

Across town, Lieberman campaign workers surrounded Ned Lamont when he made a stop at a seniors' housing complex across the street from Lieberman headquarters. They kept shouting until Lamont retreated to his campaign bus.

By late afternoon, the Lieberman campaign featured a triumphant account of the confrontation on its website, illustrated by a photo of a rattled-looking Lamont.

"Welcome to the neighborhood, Ned!" the Lieberman campaign said in its blog. "Come again soon!"

It was that kind of day.

I find it profoundly unsettling that Joseph Lieberman, of all people, would embrace the brown-shirt tactics of a darker era. And then allow his staff to resort to such shameless chest thumping about their "victory." Utterly shameful.

Senior Citizens? (0.00 / 0)
One thing I find particularly obnoxious about all this is that his (probable) slush-fund volunteers chose an event for often-fragile elderly people to put on their show.  My mother is in her mid-eighties and I can well imagine how frightened she would be if these out-of-control thugs started materializing around her.  I sincerely hope that even if Lieberman is reelected, we will NEVER again hear another word about how holy he is and how much moral than you or me.

Is Joe Increasingly Pandering to a Base with Virulent Elements? (0.00 / 0)
I participated today in the knock n rock event in Stamford. Where I found Joe votes, I found low-info voters who were not very nice people to put it politely, and retired cops or former schoolmates who said "we stick with our friends".  Again, no info on the issues - voting based on an attitude.

ANYHOW - I then came home and saw on CTBlog this little anti gay group endorsement of Lieberman:

It gave me pause.  We tend to look at the incident as poor taste, or intemperance or a sign that Joe's losing his lead and is ticked off -- but what if, in his quest for votes anywhere he can find them, he is pandering to the lowest common denominator and creating street theatre that will appeal to them - a little violence, if you will, some veiled threats?

I am not attached to this perspective - the next couple of days will reveal the extent to which holding onto power is  more important than holding onto integrity and dignity.  He's off to a running start with this anti gay endorsement.
