UPDATE: A 4th debate hosted by CT Bloggers

by: Chris Casey

Tue Oct 24, 2006 at 15:53:23 PM EDT

If you are looking for information on getting involved with a 4th Senate Debate hosted by CT Bloggers please join the discussion at Net Roots Movement. Thanks!

UPDATE: SCHLESINGER IS IN

LETS MAKE THIS HAPPEN!  Bloggers who are integral to the CT Blog Scene and/or have sway with either campaign please email me ASAP with your contact information so we can start to pull this togeather.(mom, dad, ATalbot, BranfordBoy, Scarce, Mel_Gibson, sufi, spazeboy others (you know who you are))   Lets shoot for next Wednesday.  I will try to secure a possible venue (I am thinking Westport Town Hall or a public school auditorium)

My email: cc.chriscasey@gmail.com

Mr. Casey,

Thank you so much for offering this to Mr. Schlesinger!  He is very interested in this idea, and wants you to know that he would be in complete agreement with a 4th debate hosted by the Connecticut bloggers.  Please let us know as soon as possible the response you recieve from the other campaigns.

Our phone number is XXX-XXX-XXXX(redacted).  Please keep in contact by phone or e-mail as you recieve more information.

Thanks again!

my letter to the Schlesinger camp:

To Whom it May Concern:

After watching last evenings debate between your candidate, Alan Schlesinger, and the Democratic and Independent candidates for US Senate, it became clear the Mr. Schlesinger would not mind participating in a fourth debate.  Would Mr. Schlesinger agree to a debate hosted by the bloggers of Connecticut?  The format would be informal (similar to that of last nights debate), with cumulative time limits and questions posed by a panel of local print and television journalists.  The moderator would also be a non-bias third party (in all likely hood a journalist or TV anchor).

The debate would be shot in a similar fashion to the previous debates, multiple cameras in front of a live audience, but instead of being syndicated live it would be available online through a video hosting service such as youtube.com or google video.

Please let me know if this is of interest to your candidate who seemed willing to participate in another debate and has agreed to interviews for blogs in the past.  If you would respond as soon as possible it would be much appreciated as there is little time remaining before November 7th.

Thanks,
Chris Casey

My Letter to the Lieberman Camp

To Whom it May Concern:

After watching last evenings debate between your candidate, Joe Lieberman, and the Democratic and Republican candidates for US Senate, the prospect of a possible 4th debate was raised.  Would Senator Lieberman agree to a debate hosted by the bloggers of Connecticut?  The format would be informal (similar to that of last nights debate), with cumulative time limits and questions posed by a panel of local print and television journalists (not bloggers).

Please let me know if this is of interest to your candidate who I'm sure would appreciate the opportunity to participate in a historic first in the world of politics.  If you would respond as soon as possible it would be much appreciated as there is little time remaining before November 7th.

Thanks,
Chris Casey

My letter to Tom Swan:

Mr. Swan:

After watching last evenings debate between your candidate, Ned Lamont, and the CFL and Republican candidates for US Senate, it became clear the Mr. Lamont would not mind participating in a fourth debate.  Would Mr. Lamont agree to a debate hosted by the bloggers of Connecticut?  The format would be informal (similar to that of last night's debate), with cumulative time limits and questions posed by a panel of local print and television journalists.

Thanks,
Chris Casey

now, does anyone have any contacts at Local print and TV media or does anyone want to start cold calling to find potential panelists to ask questions?  This could ver well be historic!

Brilliant but (4.00 / 1)
if bloggers put this on, it won't matter what the candidates say, the story will be mostly about bloggers.

The traditional media has a latent(and sometimes blatant) blogger fetish.

I'm willing to be wrong.

But don't call him unless you want questions biased toward Joe Lieberman.

Brilliant! (4.00 / 1)
Great idea.

haha, awesome (4.00 / 1)
and I'll actually be back home in Ffld next Wednesday to help out with Farrell for Congress and Ned! that would be great if this happens. Joe probably will decline but that would give Ned and Alan a chance to rip on him without his lies interrupting.

Olbermann and Scarborough (4.00 / 1)
Both can frsme questions they and act as moderators.

And let MSNBC cover it!

Let's bring in the best and make it happen.

The question is not what you are, we already determined that, we are now negotiating price.

let's try that again (4.00 / 1)
Both can frame questions they want and act as moderators for the candidate.

Much better... :-)

Olbermann and Scarborough!! (4.00 / 1)
And covered by MSNBC!!!

I LOVE IT!

A historic first debate hosted by bloggers; I'm in for whatever help you need in setting this up.

Atrocious idea! (4.00 / 1)
There are two weeks left. The last thing we need to do is waste a lot of time and effort to stoke blogger egos. I've had some experience hosting a blog-sponsored event (for "Crashing The Gates") and, believe me, it's a lot of work.

If the campaigns want to set something up, fine. Blogs will cover it.

But count me out.

not about blogger's ego (4.00 / 1)
lamont wants another opertunity to debate and he'll get one.  Did the first debat seem like a ego boost for the stamford buissness associations? or the second a boost for CBS, or the third the Day?  no.

Paul Bass on the Panel (0.00 / 0)
or Mark Pazniokas?

Both seem to be following the race and both are smart and thoughtful.

News 12 might air or host it, otherwise local access. (0.00 / 0)
I'm finding a lot of undecided Republicans in Darien and New Canaan.

Sorry I can't commit to help organize, but I think it's a great idea. I would make every effort to be there.

PS And I wouldn't bring any LaRouche supporters.

PPS Nevertheless, I think "Cheney is a fat-ass Nazi" has top 40 potential.

It's Morning in America. Too bad Reagan's not here to see it. - Me

Think this one through guys (0.00 / 0)
I rather see a series of debates and forums with Ned and Alan while bloggers cover the event. They both seem to be up for debating in every Congressional District and if Joe doesn't want to debate...well, screw him.

I just think this will be played out by the media as more of a blogger thing than a real debate. I could be wrong...

FYI: If your looking for someone to moderate, get Colin McEnroe.

How about Sonia Baghdaddy as moderator? ;) n/t (0.00 / 0)

I would try and involve Connecticut Local Politics as they are a bipartisan blog. I also think the New Haven Independent might be interested in partnering with bloggers to stage a debate. You might also look for another partner that has not endorsed like the AFL-CIO Connecticut.

I hope it works but Joe Lieberman is about as likely to attend a debate hosted by vampires as one hosted by bloggers.

both blogs already on board! (4.00 / 1)

this would be outstanding (0.00 / 0)
suggest michele jacklin for panel --former courant political columnist. where would this be held? and when--need specifics if you're going to publicize. can't help but am cheering.

How would this help Ned? (0.00 / 0)
Is Lieberman getting much swayable support from the blogosphere?

? (0.00 / 0)
'twould be broadcast on TV

Would CTN be covering it? (0.00 / 0)
I would think CSPAN or CTN might be willing to cover.
