"You Goddamned Son of a Bitch"

by: BranfordBoy

Mon Oct 23, 2006 at 23:32:49 PM EDT

It could be the most important one liner of the debate.

"You goddamned son of a bitch, how dare you accuse me of voting for the Energy Bill because I got a contribution."

Those were the words allegedly spoken by Joe Lieberman to Ned Lamont immediately after tonight's debate at the Garde Arts Center in New London. And although Lieberman cupped his hand over his mic, looking for all the world like he was taking the Pledge of Allegiance, his bitter remark was picked up on the audio feed, according to the report I heard. It didn't make the air (that had already been cut) but, if the report is accurate, WTNH should have the audio.

We shall see.

Voting for the energy bill because you got a contribution or thinking the energy bill was a good bill?

Great moments in Joe Lieberman civility (0.00 / 0)
"Mr. McGreevey called the senator to rationalize his public endorsement of Mr. Dean, and Senator Lieberman replied, "Don't piss on me and tell me it's raining."

Lieberman is a world-class jerk.

Lieberman scolding Lamont in video (4.00 / 1)
At the very end of the debate video, you can see Lieberman covering his lapel microphone and speaking angrily to Lamont.  However, the WTNH theme music is too loud, and you can't tell what they are saying.  The station should be able to pull out that audio track.

As we were leaving the auditorium . . . (4.00 / 1)
Joe seemed to be saying an awful lot more than that to Ned. He appeared to be a little in-your-face there for a few minutes.

Chris - That's A Really Great Piece (0.00 / 0)
How about papering kiosks and bulletin boards with it?  I think that would have some real impact!

if you're going to use a quote in direct mail, you have to cite it. and if you're going to cite it, you're gonna need a better source than "BranfordBoy heard it somewhere".

why Joe was upset (4.00 / 2)
Firedoglake on why Joe doesn't want to be exposed:

Lieberman has cashed in from his willingness to cast key votes against the environment. In the last year and a half alone, he has received more than $72,000 in corporate PAC contributions from the energy industry – that's almost $1,000 in energy PAC contributions per week since 2005. Since 2000, he's raked in more than $285,000 from the energy industry. This includes PAC contributions from, among others, Texaco, Conoco, British Petroleum and Occidental Petroleum. It also includes contributions from the natural gas industry that will benefit from Lieberman's support of stripping Connecticut's ability to regulate the construction of natural gas terminals in Long Island Sound. Specifically, Lieberman has received contributions from the American Gas Assocation, Consolidated Natural Gas and the Interstate Natural Gas Association of America. Meanwhile, Enron lobbyist Michael Lewan (also formerly Lieberman's chief of staff and a top fundraiser for John Rowland) continues to hold K Street fundraisers for Lieberman in Washington, D.C.
