The Lieberman Effect

by: Scarce

Wed Aug 30, 2006 at 08:58:51 AM EDT

Foxnews asks "Will Connecticut senator's independent run help embattled GOP candidates?"

Joe's response? "Well, they should have thought of that before they had the primary."

Utter gall.

Shays-Lieberman Unity™ 2006

How many bipartisan appearances with Democrats has the Lieberman for Connecticut candidate had since the primary?

Did you notice the glee... (0.00 / 0)
...in Fox News reporter Carl Cameron's voice?

Joe is in for the long haul. (0.00 / 0)
I just read a diary in Dailykos that was cross threaded from the Awful Ad thread that talks about Joes membership in an organization called Foundation for the Defense of Democracies.  Among its membership is Steve Forbes, Jack Kemp, Newt Gingrich, Richard Perle, Bill Kristol, and surprisingly Donna Brazile and Chuck Schumer.  This explains alot about the DSCC's lack of real support and the failure of Schumer to lean on Lieberman to drop out.

Joe's vanity is enough evidence for me to say that he would ride out the general election (0.00 / 0)
The only other variable that would affect Lieberman's affect on the general election is if he could raise enough funds to run a viable campaign.  Republicans and traitorous Dems will fund Lieberman's campaign, but it will be interesting to see how much they will donate to them.

Republicans are under attack in many areas.  The RSCC just had to pull workers from other campaigns to help Lincoln Chaffee in his primary against Laffey.  Like Lieberman, Chaffee didn't have a grassroots network to help him in a primary battle.  The RSCC has also had to send funds to Chaffee for his primary battle.

I think Lieberman will get enough funds to las through Nov. 7.  But I don't know how much he will raise from second hand Republican sources.  Lieberman won't be getting any DSCC money and Hillary and other senators are helping cut off Democratic funds to LIeberman.

You got PNAC signatories in there, not good at all. Goes to show ya, long haul's not completely about joeVanity™

I forgot to post their website (4.00 / 1)
Check out the website for the Foundation for the Defense of Democracies at http://defenddemocra... to really see who some of Joe's friends are.  I've known that Joe's really a neocon for only a couple of years, but this kind of rattles me a bit.  These are some scary people who are willing to do what it takes to get what they want.

Note the company Liberman and Schumer keep (0.00 / 0)

There's more than enough money (0.00 / 0)
in that group to keep Joe going.  Now that Forbes isn't trying to fly around the world in that stupid balloon, he has some extra dough laying around.  Headline would be "Forbes gives Joe Balloon Money to Inflate Campaign."

Note: Louis Freeh was the FBI Director (0.00 / 0)
under Clinton who refused to investigate Saudi nationals involved in the Cole bombing.

Mr. Freeh is also a past campaign contributor to Lieberman.

Note the Freeh double-speak about his watch

Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh hints that bin Laden is tied to the USS Cole bombing

nsnews editorial

Terrorism is a manifestation of hatred and when it is well planned, it is purposefully executed. CNN recently reported that Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh hints that bin Laden is tied to the USS Cole bombing, but Louis Freeh would not confirm or deny a possible bin Laden link. Why not? Louis Freeh claims that he is a junior partner in what is called “a joint effort being led by Yemen”. Shouldn’t Louis Freeh at least acknowledge the fact that bin Laden is a suspect? If this doesn’t smell like a cover up, we live by different standards. If Louis Freeh has the interest or the intention to get to the bottom of the USS Cole blast, he has to demonstrate it. Osama bin Laden is an indicted, criminal terrorist, and if the Director of the FBI does not express any anxiety over the fact, it is probably because bin Laden is a controversial terrorist/freedom fighter with American contacts.

Interestingly enough, Oliver North calls the USS Cole terrorist assault an “act of war” and claims that Osama bin Laden is linked to Sadam Hussein. North conveniently ignores the fact that he has declared war against President Clinton as well as Sadam Hussein.

was the guy in the yellow slicker Murtha? (0.00 / 0)
Just askin.  That would be extra bad.

I doubt it. (0.00 / 0)
What would Murtha, who pretty much led the charge to get out of Iraq be doing supporting LIEberman?

Shays, I wonder if the crowd that was so upset with Jane for calling last week's appearance a campaign event will not apologize.

Lieberman is clearly tying his future to the GOP Bush machine (0.00 / 0)
Defeating Lieberman is the key to defeating the GOP machine that will help Democrats around the country.  We need to keep tying Lieberman to Bush as well as to the other Repuke candidates.  Bush is the albatross that will sink them all.

calling Hillman (0.00 / 0)
get a clip of Joe stating he is all for democracy in Iraq
then voiceover "What about Democracy in CT?

"Well, they should have thought of that before they had the primary."

I guess when the people in your party say no to you democracy doesn't seem too good it's time to change the rules.

Hammer him with his own words!

The question is not what you are, we already determined that, we are now negotiating price.

Money clip (0.00 / 0)
10-sec. clip here:

FOX NEWS: "Do you think [Lieberman] is actually going to motivate Republicans to come out and vote against Democrats?"

MICHAEL O'BRIEN, SEIU: "Absolutely."

LIEBERMAN: (laughing) "Well, I guess I should say they should have thought of that during the primary. But here we are."

Joe on neocon "Committee on the Present Danger" (0.00 / 0)
Between the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, and Committee on the Present Danger, where he is honorary co-chair, Lieberman sure keeps some interesting company.

You'll want to check out the members and the overlap between the 2 groups: http://fightingterro...

Here's a few of the CPD members: Newt Gingrich, James Woolsey,Steven Forbes, John Kyl, JACK KEMP (who just campaigned with Lieberman in CT), Edwin Meese, Laurie Mylroie, Daniel Pipes, Norman Podhoretz

Mission Statement

The Committee on the Present Danger is dedicated to protecting and expanding democracy by supporting policies aimed at winning the global war against terrorism and the movements and ideologies that drive it. We will support policies that use appropriate means--military, economic, political, social--to achieve this goal. We are an international, non-partisan organization from the policy, political, academic, business, labor and professional communities. We support the advance of the rule of law, the guarantee of fundamental human rights and the development of civil societies in all regions.

Our mission is to educate free people everywhere about the threat posed by global radical Islamist and fascist terrorist movements; to counsel against appeasement of terrorists; to support policies that are part of a strategy of victory against this menace to freedom and to support policies that encourage the development of civil society and democracy in those regions from which the terrorists emanate.

I hope Nancy DiNardo is happy now (0.00 / 0)
She told us that Lieberman would HELP Democratic congressional candidates.  They all toed the party line, and dutifully endorsed Lieberman as the party's offical nominee.  Now, however, Lieberman is stabbing them in the back.

I hope that Diane Farrell calls up Lieberman and tells him to his face what a bastard he is.

And Nancy?  With friends like Joe, who needs enemies?  He's a jerk, Nancy.  Got it?  Now stop trying to play footsie with Lieberman while offering support for Lamont that barely even registers.

Stop misquoting Joe! (0.00 / 0)
That's not what he said and you know it.

Watch the video again.  It's very clear that what he actually says is:

LIEBERMAN: [snort] Well, they should have thought of that before they had the primary.

The Quote was... (0.00 / 0)
"Well, I guess I should say they should have thought about that during the primary"

What he meant was "I'll show those ungrateful bastards for not nominating".
