Ned Lamont: Strong On Defense

by: BranfordBoy

Thu Aug 10, 2006 at 14:27:58 PM EDT

Joe Lieberman is sounding more and more like some primitive tribal shaman.

"If we just pick up like Ned Lamont wants us to do, get out by a date certain, it will be taken as a tremendous victory by the same people who wanted to blow up these planes in this plot hatched in England. It will strengthen them and they will strike again."

In the anthropology course I slept through this is what was called "magical thinking."

"If we don't throw your virgin daughter into the pit of fire, the Sun God will cause the crops to fail!"

That's why it's important to let the people of Connecticut and the world at large know that Ned Lamont, as part of the reality-based community, will build our strength instead of pissing it away in stupid wars justified by tribal-style magical thinking.

This is what Ned said Tuesday night (or was it Wednesday morning?):

As your Senator, I will work to assure that America has the strongest and greatest military on the face of this earth.  But America is stronger still when we work with our allies, stay true to our values, and treat the rest of the world with respect.

That's the America that Connecticut voted for today.

Ned Lamont is far less the anti-war candidate than he is the pro-sanity candidate. The sooner everyone wakes up to that fact, the better off the country will be.

we all know now that we were lied to and mis-represented into this war.Additionally we all know Lieberman in the face of the truth still clings to those lies and says we should be in Iraq.Id submit, its because of Bush and Joe's dumb and stupid policies  that the Isreali's felt both threatened and emboldened enough to invade Lebanon. If we didnt invade Iraq, the Isreali's never would have invaded Lebanon.

I've posted this before--but believe it merits a reposting.

Iraq Creating New Breed of Jihadists, says CIA
by Ewen MacAskill, Duncan Campbell and Richard Norton-Taylor

The war in Iraq is creating a new breed of Islamic jihadists who could go on to destabilize other countries, according to a CIA report.
The CIA believes Iraq to be potentially worse than Afghanistan, which produced thousands of jihadists in the 1980s and 1990s. Many of the recruits to Osama bin Laden's al-Qaida had fought in Afghanistan.

The sobering caution came as a senior British anti-terrorism source warned that those trained in terror techniques in Iraq could use their newly-acquired skills in Britain at the end of the war.

The terror plots in London, Bali, and Madrid are a direct result of the war in Iraq. Although censored from the US media, images of maimed and dead Iraqis are broadcast all over the Muslim world from Jakarta to Morroco. These images, along with the images of torture (which Lieberman also supports), fan the flames of anti-American hate all over the world--and this hate is not limited to just the Muslim world--but to predominately Christian Europe as well.

Shortly after the Iraq war, my cousin's wife visited London and was rudely confronted by a Briton after this Briton noticed her American accent. The Briton asked her, "Why are you Americans so stupid in electing Bush? Why do you Americans support this disastrous war in Iraq?" My cousin replied, "I didn't even vote for Bush. I am not responsible. I love my country but I hate my government."

Bush war policies, which Joe supports, bring shame and disgrace upon all of us Americans and are responsible for the increasing level of violence in the world. Joe and all the war-mongering Republicans and Democrats need to be removed from office so we can have a sane foreign policy.

There is no military solution to the problem of terrorism. Terrorism can only be addressed through constructive diplomacy and covert intelligence operations conducted in cooperation with the international community.

It's been nearly 5 yrs since 9/11 and Bin Laden is still on the prowl and the perpretrators of 9/11 have not yet been brought to justice...we waste billions of dollars on weapons of mass destruction in Iraq while our port security continues to be shamefully underfunded to the tune of $500 million a year and less than 5% of our imports are inspected.

The truth is that Joe hasn't done jack shit to make America safer and continues to distract Americans from the real problems that face them.

"If tyranny and oppression come to this land, it will be in the guise of fighting a foreign enemy."--James Madison

Reality (4.00 / 1)
They caught these guys in London because of a wire transfer from PAKISTAN.

PAKISTAN. Not IRAQ, not AFGHANISTAN. We are not at war with pakistan. Maybe we should be? Maybe we should be at war with Saudi Arabia, too, since that's where all the 9/11 hi-jackers came from. Fuck it. Maybe we need to bomb London, because that's where these terrorist live.

Shit, man, this just makes no sense and it drives me up the wall that the fate of this nation is being decided by complete insanity.

Terrorism is a problem that can be exacerbated or ammeliorated. It can never be solved (try getting elected saying that!). The best way to make it worse, is to get mangled bodies of arab children on the news every night. Congratulations, America.

Or "Ned, Is that machine gun sticking out of your living room window aimed at New York?"

Mr. Joe:

''I'm worried that too many people, both in politics and out, don't appreciate the seriousness of the threat to American security and the evil of the enemy that faces us -- more evil or as evil as Nazism and probably more dangerous than the Soviet communists we fought during the long Cold War,'' Lieberman said.

''If we just pick up like Ned Lamont wants us to do, get out by a date certain, it will be taken as a tremendous victory by the same people who wanted to blow up these planes in this plot hatched in England. It will strengthen them and they will strike again.''

When can our candidate start saying... (0.00 / 0)
We need to start pushing the reality that Iraq is MOTIVATING terrorism, and the sooner we pull out, the sooner we stop recruiting for Al Qaeda.

I mean, why should Joe Lieberman get to make a counter-factual argument (I mean, if being IN Iraq is so great for the war against terrorism, why did these 22 guys bother to attack? It makes no goddamned sense), and the best we can do is sit on our hands. I mean, we have proof that terrorism is getting WORSE, and we can't make an argument that Iraq is a prime motivating factor? And THEY get to use MORE terrorism as a reason to STAY in Iraq?

Shit. That's insane.
