Q-Poll - Lieberman Gains Back Ground

by: Neal Fink

Mon Aug 07, 2006 at 08:07:09 AM EDT

Some sobering news this morning. This morning's Quinnipiac poll shows Lieberman picking up points since last Tuesday. Lamont now leads by a slim 6 points, down from 13 just last Thursday. Today's poll puts the race a 51-45 in favor of Lamont. Considering 4% are still undecided and the margin of error, the race is now a dead heat. Q has not posted on their site, so this info comes from Political Wire.

We need all hands on deck. Take the day off, call in sick, do whatever you have to do. Get your ass down to a local Lamont office for phone banking or canvassing.

If you're out of state, MoveOn is supposed to have a system for you to make calls from home. Someone please post the link if you have it.

Going to Bridgeport office....

Joe's sanctimonious speech ! (4.00 / 1)

In one of those consultant driven campaign pushes, on Sunday Lieberman removed any shred of dignity and honesty that he always claims with such piousness. He basically lied and said he always has been critical of Bush's conduct of the war, he said that he always welcomed dissent on the war, and he said that he was not an "enabler" of Bush.

The poster senator for the DLC, Lieberman went on to laughingly accuse Ned Lamont of being a center-rightist.

Lieberman's Sunday "conversion" was a preposterous effort to lie his way back into the Senate, even while still refusing to rule out running as an Independent as he declared himself a loyal Democrat. It was so riddled with hypocrisy, mistruths and Joementum self-pity that it will never allow you to trust a person who wears their "piety" on their sleeve again.

http://www.buzzflash...

If you live in Connecticut, help put a stop to the ruinous "Joementum." Vote for Ned Lamont.

As for Lieberman, a mind is such a beautiful thing to waste, but Joe managed to do it

I Didn't Think it was Possible... (0.00 / 0)
But I now hate Joe LIEberman as much as I hate George Bush. That speech is absolutely sickening. And you left out the most outrageous part - Holy Joe claiming that he is the victim of the same kind of swiftboating that was done by the GOP to disabled Viet Nam veteran, Max Cleland.

He may be a lousy Senator, but he sure knows how to play the victim. Pardon me while I get my finger violin.

Oh, and I wish he'd make up his mind about who Ned is supposed to be. Is it the guy who is so far right he votes with Republicans 80% of the time, or is the guy who is a radical left wing lunatic, or is it the center-rightist? That's making my head spin so fast I may need an exorcist.

I think I dislike Joe MORE, (0.00 / 0)
if that is possible. At least George Bush doesn't pretend to represent me and share my values.

WTF (0.00 / 0)
Was driving in to work today when I heard about the latest poll. I was planning what I was going to say at my next DTC meeting if Joe Lieberman won. I pictured myself standing on my chair and yelling, "What is wrong with you people? This party is in crisis!" Then I thought of joining the green party and saying, "fuck the democrats." Then I thought of moving to Canada.

Then I thought of calling in sick and working on the campaign today.

I'll be in Watertown if anyone needs me.

I see some here are in their USUAL FULL PANIC MODE (4.00 / 1)
Schwartz has been in Liebermans camp since day one.Schwartz Told lieberman 60 days ago he was unbeatable and had nothing to worry about.

Explain to me again why you take anything the Q reports seriously?

It's all hands on deck, man!!! (4.00 / 1)
Look, Keith, even if you're confident we take this thing, it only happens if we make it happen.  You of all people should know that - especially after Armando's tribute to you as the guy who got off his ass and did something.

And besides, look at it this way:  for every extra point we beat Joe by, that's like another 30 DC lobbyists who break down and cry.  Worth it for that alone.

And I know you want to hear Cokie wailing, Sganarelle-like, "My shrimp! My shrimp!  Who's going to put out my shrimp?"

Question on moveon.org phone bank (0.00 / 0)
I know some CT residents who want to phone bank but cannot physically get to the Lamont campaign office...I know that the moveon.org phone bank effort is supposed to be for out-of-staters...but I thought that maybe, it can also be for CT residents who just can't get to a Lamont campaign office. Can someone please confirm that CT residents can use this system as well?

If CT residents can use the moveon.org, there ought to be no excuse at all for each and every CT Lamont supporter to do at least half hour of phone banking tonight after work or school when they get home. We are all busy and have work/school/family obligations, but during these final hours, I think it's important for each of us to make whatever small sacrifice we can to help the Lamont campaign. In my view, electing Ned Lamont and defeating Joe Lieberman is The Great Moral Cause for CT residents...it will be the historic dawn of a new era in progressive politics...we should make sure we play whatever role we can to make our dreams a reality.

For those of you who have never phonebanked, it's easy and it's fun. My kid brother who never did it before and was nervouse about it tried it, and he did a great job and became an expert in less than an hour.

For the cynical (4.00 / 1)
One could say Quinnipiac has all the bases covered (and their ass) with these last two polls, a little something for everyone:

The Ecstasists who jumped up and down at the preordained blowout. These people are probably deflated now after their earlier delerium.

The Chicken Littles who've been waiting valiantly for the Lieberman "surge" which will snatch victory from the jaws of defeat, or some other cliche. These people now have something to get excited about, the prospect of losing.

The Pragmatists who regard all polls with a skeptical attitude, knowing full well the problematic nature of summer polling and trying to measure turnout with no historical comparison. This is uncharted territory and everyone is feeling their way in the dark at this point. This includes pollsters.

I canvassed for Lamont yesterday (0.00 / 0)
I canvassed for Lamont yesterday in Stamford, CT. The response was about 50-50 Lieberman-Lamont.

I also think that people out of state should be phonebanking people in state.
