Wake Up, Wake Up WalMart! Joe Accepts Wal-Mart PAC $$$$$

by: Maura

Tue Aug 01, 2006 at 11:21:39 AM EDT

Wake Up Wal Mart brings its Change Wal-Mart, Change America Tour to Bridgeport tomorrow.

Bridgeport City Hall Annex Steps
99 Broad Street
12:00 Noon

The tour highlights how Wal-Mart and its policies hurt America and exposes Wal-Mart's Agenda: A Right Wing America, including this agenda against the best interest of the American people:

Wal-Mart's Agenda: A Right Wing America
Ship U.S. Jobs Overseas
Oppose Expanding Health Care to Working Families & Children
Oppose a Living Wage
Use Special Insterest Groups To Weaken Our Nation's Port Security

WalMart has a political action committee to further this right wing agenda.

Sounds good to get the word out to Americans about Wal-Mart's detrimental policies, right?

Both Joe Lieberman and Ned Lamont are scheduled to appear at the Wake Up WalMart rally in Bridgeport.

But only one of these two candidates for the Democratic nomination for U.S. Senate has accepted campaign contributions from Wal-Mart's right wing PAC.  Want to guess which one?

Bingo!  Joe Lieberman.  $1,000 from Wal-Mart's PAC just this February.  When Lieberman ran for President, he also received maximum contributions from Wal-Mart family fortune heir John Walton and his wife Christy.  (This is just an initial search - I may find even more.)

Once again Joe Lieberman tries to have it both ways - scold WalMart when he wants votes from people who care about good jobs and health care, but take campaign contributions to advance Wal-Mart's right wing agenda.

Wal-Mart PAC also gave $1000 to Joe (0.00 / 0)
A far cry from the $10,000 they gave to George Allen(R-VA) and Mike DeWine(R-OH). Their favorite Democrat seems to be Harold Ford (D-TN)($5000), who is a Lieberman ally.

Right (4.00 / 1)
But Ford isn't speaking at a "Wake Up wal mart rally"

Exactly (4.00 / 1)
The hypocrisy is absolutely astounding.  Is he going to return the check now that he needs votes from Democratic primary voters who oppose Wal-Mart's agenda?

I doubt it.  He wanted AFL-CIO's endorsement, but a week later voted for the Oman Free Trade Agreement, which was vociferously opposed by the AFL-CIO.  He's got no problem being serially two-faced.

Not in Bridgeport anyway (0.00 / 0)
The point is look at the Democrats they do support in the Senate: all so-called moderate voices and absolutely zero of the more liberal Senators.

Carper, Tom (D-DE) $3,500
Conrad, Kent (D-ND) $4,000
Feinstein, Dianne (D-CA)  $1,000
Ford, Harold E Jr (D-TN)  $5,000
Lieberman, Joe (D-CT)  $1,000
Menendez, Robert (D-NJ)  $2,500
Stabenow, Debbie (D-MI)  $1,000

..the Menendez, Stabenow contributions seem a bit suspicious. There are also small amounts of a few hundred dollars to Democratic candidates.

Tomorrow, Wednesday, Aug. 2, at the City Hall Annex Steps starting at noon, eight of Connecticut's most prominent Democratic leaders will stand together and hold a joint press conference calling on Wal-Mart to change into a responsible corporate citizen for the betterment of America's taxpayers and working families.

At the press conference, Connecticut's leaders will call on Wal-Mart to start providing affordable health care, pay a living wage, provide a safe and just workplace and lessen the burden on all taxpayers that are forced to subsidize Wal-Mart's health care crisis in Connecticut and across the nation. At the event, the speakers will sign a pledge to fight for a "Better America."

The press conference is being held as part of WakeUpWalMart.com's 19 state, 35 city, 35 day "2006 Change Wal- Mart, Change America" National Bus Tour. The star of the tour is a stunning 45-foot long, fully wrapped bus (more like an enormous sized billboard) nicknamed "Smiley." The bus will be wrapped side-to-side and front-to-back in patriotic colors, the American flag and the name of the tour, "2006 Change Wal-Mart, Change America Tour." In addition, on each side of the bus, in bold letters and colors, the message of the tour will be available for all to see -- including "Join America's Fight for Health Care."

The national campaign to change Wal-Mart is quickly becoming one of the hottest political and social issues in America. With over 248,000 supporters in all 50 states, WakeUpWalMart.com is America's campaign to change Wal-Mart. For the month of August, the campaign is taking its national movement, and its headquarters, on the road in a non-stop cross-country tour hitting 19 states and 35 cities in 35 days.

The nationwide bus tour, titled the "2006 Change Wal-Mart, Change America Tour" is an unprecedented and exciting new move in the group's campaign to change Wal-Mart into a responsible corporate citizen and to make Wal-Mart a better company by addressing the Wal-Mart Health Care Crisis. The "Wal-Mart Health Care Crisis" represents Wal-Mart's failure, despite $11 billion in profits, to provide company health care to over half of its employees at a cost to U.S. taxpayers of $1.39 billion every year.

Beginning Aug. 1, the "2006 Change Wal-Mart, Change America" bus tour will be holding a series of events and actions all across the nation with some of America's most prominent political and community leaders including Sen. John Edwards.

The state of Connecticut is going to owe you an ENORMOUS beer--and that's just for starters.

You rock, woman.

Bipolar Joe (4.00 / 2)
Of course he's trying to have it both ways; that is Joe's warped version of bipartisanship.  He speaks out against Wal-Mart: he's a good, loyal Democrat!  He takes money from Wal-Mart's PAC: He's a REASONABLE Democrat that Republicans can do business with!

Joe's Hypocracy (0.00 / 0)
None of us are surprised that Joementum wants it both ways...he will keep the Wal-Mart Pac money...and attend the rally....please fireup the kissmobile folks and have it at the rally...
