Lieberman Campaign Windshield Flyer

by: Maura

Mon Jul 31, 2006 at 15:37:24 PM EDT

As I promised in my diary last night, below the jump is a scanned copy of the Lieberman flyer that was placed under windshield wipers in my church parking lot in Stamford yesterday.

The key to an attack like this is, as I said yesterday, that the specific information about Ned's club membership on this flyer is accurate and provable.  The claim about race on the top of page 2 and the larger implication, though, is reprehensible and dishonest.

Katrina? Affirmative Action? (4.00 / 4)
Where was Joe then?

Michael Brown was overwhelmingly confirmed by the full Senate, but Senator Lieberman (as chair of the Committee on Governmental Affairs in 2002) led an unforgivably brief 42 minute confirmation hearing--for the man who would lead (more appropriately, "who would fail to lead") all of this country's emergency operations.  I'm sick of hearing about all of millionaire lawyer Lieberman's experience in the Senate--a fat lot of good it did this country, this state, and New Orleans when it came time to pass Michael Brown's appointment through committee in under an hour.  Joe Lieberman rolls over for Bush.

And on Affirmative Action?  Joe wasn't for it in 1995, but changed his mind in 2000.

Then, on May 11, 2006 it was Joe Lieberman who backed out of a confirmed appearance at the NAACP Candidates Forum at CCSU.  I know, because I was there, and sending Sean Smith is a bigger insult than not showing up at all.

Political Cheapness (4.00 / 1)
The disclaimer "in house with volunteer labor" is a fancy way of saying that the piece doesn't have a union bug because it was photocopied.

But...it usually has larger meaning. For example, if you compare this piece with all of the other Lieberman campaign mailings, you'll see that they weren't done by the same team. In this case, "in house" probably means Sean Smith or somebody other than the mail consultants doing this with Microsoft Word (instead of have the political consultant ad exec supervising a graphic artist doing the piece).

And you can see why whoever did this isn't a high-dollar consultant. The piece is very patronizing and has the potential for a net negative after the backlash (I can't wait to see what Al Sharpton says about this tactic).

Desperation. And voters can smell The Fear.

And it's a good thing... (0.00 / 0)
If this person had any familiarity with Photoshop there might have been a picture with David Duke.  Luckily, they're not that creative.

Flyer is Disgusting Propaganda (4.00 / 1)
"The claim about race on the top of page 2 and the larger implication, though, is reprehensible and dishonest."

You're right on the mark, Maura. This flyer is inflammatory and very obviously designed to manipulate the "low information voters" into choosing Joe LIEberman. That his people were leaving these flyers on cars in church parking lots is even more sickening. It's a page right out of Karl Rove's GOP playbook.

In fact, it reminds me a lot of the push polling Bush's people used against McCain in 2000 in which it was insinuated that McCain had an illigitimate black baby. The truth was that McCain and his wife had adopted a child from Bangladesh. As in LIEberman's flyer, the McCain facts were twisted by the Bush campaign in order to insinuate something that was incendiary and false. The goal was to rile up the bigoted base of the SC GOP enough that they would vote for Bush in the primary. Sadly, it worked.

I sure hope the majority of CT's voters can see through this garbage.

Ha!! (0.00 / 0)
Ned Lamont is SO racist that he QUIT a country club because it DIDN'T HAVE ENOUGH BLACK PEOPLE IN IT?

That's a smear?

Actually Joe is the master of deception (0.00 / 0)
because for 18 years he led us to believe that he is the real deal when in actuality he has been undercutting us at every critical turn.  Read Colin McEnroes article at Salon.com and come back and admit who is the real master of deception.  I have to say Jimbo, that I believe that you are both stupid and unprincipled as any other fool who swallows both Joe's and the Republicans BS and regurgitates it back as if it the gospel.  Do yourself a favor and stick with Rush and Hannity because the longer you hang around here, the greater the likelihood that your feelings are going to get hurt. Have a nice day hatemonger.
