One line from this morning'sNew York Times coverage of the race is stunning:
In general, the senator has avoided speaking about foreign policy on the campaign trail. His campaign did not make him available for an interview for this article.
He has avoided speaking about foreign policy. How has he avoided this? Because the press has gone along with Lieberman's distraction game:
Don't talk about the war, talk about how rich Lamont is.
Don't talk about the war, talk about Lamont's taxes.
Don't talk about the war, talk about Lamont owning Halliburton stock.
Don't talk about Lieberman owning Halliburton, too, just DON'T I tell you!
Don't talk about the war, talk about Lamont's former country club.
Don't talk about the war, talk about how much money Lamont has donated to the campaign.
Note to our friendly readers who are professional journalists:
Joe Lieberman has said things are getting better in Iraq. Why has NO ONE called him on this? How do you let him get away with this? Why do you keep chasing after the balls Marion Steinfels throws you like a terrier playing fetch? You're the ones who have said that this whole primary is about the war. So why don't you get the Senator to actually talk about the war?
