Limbaugh, Shays, and Orchulli stand by their man

by: mikect

When the going gets tough, Republicans stick together. and some prominent friends on Joe's side of the aisle are sticking up for him.  Step aside, Sean Hannity!  Add Rush to the list of Lieberman fans!  Here's the streaming audio and the audio download

mikect :: Limbaugh, Shays, and Orchulli stand by their man
And on his home page (as of this writing) are these subscription-only links:

*  Democrats Cast Out Joe Lieberman
*  Joe Lieberman: Voice of Sanity in His Party

And best of all, this (presumably?) Limbaugh-made campaign graphic:

Rush is outraged that the Democratic base is threatening his friend:

You know, what's happening with Lieberman is that the Democratic base is trying to run him out of the United States Senate, and they've got this media tycoon who has literally no political experience whatsoever, and we've played audio sound bites of some debates that they've had. It's clear this guy is just mouthing phrases he's been taught by the lunatics of the left-wing fringe. We got to thinking about this, though, because Lieberman says he's going to run as an independent if he loses the primary.

Well, let's take that a step further. The Democratic Party today is assumed to be -- well, it's not assumed to be. The Democratic Party today is oriented around one thing -- aside from its hatred of Bush -- oriented around its anti-war position. The Democrat base is pure anti-war, and that's why Lieberman is in trouble. It is such a powerful base or perceived to be by other Democrats, that Democrats like Hillary and others, John Kerry said, (paraphrasing) "If Lieberman loses, I'm not supporting him. I must support my party. My party stood behind me. I always be a Democrat," and Hillary has pretty much said the same thing. Barbara Boxer however is in trouble, so-called.

Among his other Republican supporters, Chris Shays is still grateful to Lieberman for backing him up on Iraq and will continue to return the favor.  Who needs the official Republican nominee when they've already got an unofficial one!

The House Republicans, meanwhile, seem to be banking on Lieberman’s ultimate success and are seeking to associate themselves with the state’s most prominent Democrat.

Shays, in fact, endorsed Lieberman back in February and has stood by that position even as Schlesinger emerged as a Republican candidate and received his state party’s official endorsement. “Chris is going to vote for Sen. Lieberman. That’s all it is,” said Michael Sohn, Shays’ campaign manager. “For him it’s about principle. . . . [Lieberman] took a very courageous stand on an issue [the Iraq War] that’s important to Christopher,” he said.

And this:

Michale Sohn, Shays' campaign manager, yesterday said he still plans to vote for Lieberman.  "Chris looks at Joe as someone who reaches across the aisle to get things done," Sohn said. "They share a passion about the (Iraq) war and have been friends a long time."

Jack Orchulli, floated as potential replacement for the troubled candidacy of Alan Schlesinger, says he'd have trouble finding differences with Lieberman:

"And there is sentiment among Republicans that Lieberman's not a bad guy," Orchulli said. "Put that together and one's hard-pressed to spend another million on a quixotic adventure."
