Rep. Maxine Waters at DemocracyFest

by: Scarce

Mon Jul 17, 2006 at 12:25:59 PM EDT

She's coming.

"Congresswoman Maxine Waters at San Diego State University, DemocracyFest, announcing her intent to lobby for Lamont in the CT-Sen Democratic primary race against incumbent Sen. Lieberman, who has not committed to support the winner in the primary, and is preparing an independent run."

Note: I got this from Raines who posted it at www.blip.tv. I couldn't figure out how to embed it so just grabbed it instead and moved it over to YouTube. The event was held July 14-16 and this was dated July 16th, so I believe from yesterday.

(Note: the video may cause motion sickness as it's done with a handheld.)

Don't quote me but.. (0.00 / 0)
I thought I heard this week and Thursday. Can't find a confirmation though. You could call them.

Congresswoman Maxine Waters
2344 Rayburn House Office Building
Washington, DC 20515
Phone: (202) 225-2201
Fax: (202) 225-7854

Quoting Maxine Waters (0.00 / 0)
Showing her backbone, she says (in case anyone can't watch the video):

The backbone award, I'm not so sure that even I'm deserving
I need to do more
I need to demonstrate that I truly have the backbone to stand up to the party leadership and say, "I won't go down that road, I won't take that direction"

And so what I think I need to do is, I need to stop everything that I'm doing this weekend and leave Washington, DC.

I'm on my way to Connecticut!  [huge applause and cheers]

I'm not going to Connecticut as a traditional Democrat.
I'm not going to support the man we supported as the Vice President
I'm not going to say simply because you're an incumbent I'm here to support you
I'm supporting Ned Lamont!  [huge cheers/ovation]

I will be threatened
I will be demonized
I will be undermined
But if I've really got backbone
I will say to my party
That Mr. Lieberman happens to be the poster boy for what's wrong with the Democratic party

And I choose to have the poster boy that tells us what's right with the rest of politics.

Thank you all very much.

I love Maxine Waters!!!! (0.00 / 0)
You go girl!!!!

DemocracyFest? (4.00 / 1)
Are they too busy to have a space in between Democracy and Fest?

"No time, Johnson! DemocracyFest, all one word!"
"Yes, sir! Do you want me to still capitalize the F?"
"Of course! We're not barbarians, Johnson."

Social libertarian.

If you don't like it here, go back to the Drudge Report or Focus on the Family.

I think Rage Against the Machine said it best:

"I want all my daughters to be like Maxine Waters!"

Do we really need Maxine Waters coming here for Ned? (0.00 / 0)
Isn't she one of the 13 most corrupt members of Congress.

Rep. Maxine Waters: A December 2004 Los Angeles Times investigation disclosing how members of the congresswoman's family have made more than $1 million in the last eight years by doing business with companies, candidates and causes that Waters has helped. Before publication of the Times investigation last year, Waters declined to be interviewed, but said of her family members: "They do their business, and I do mine."

I KNEW she sounded familiar! (0.00 / 0)
She was only one of two Democrats on that list, the other being William Jefferson.

Here's the list, for anyone quick to accuse it of being some partisan attack on Democrats:

  * Rep. Roy Blunt [4] (R-MO)
  * Rep. Randy Cunningham [5] (R-CA)
  * Rep. Tom Feeney [6] (R-FL)
  * Rep. William Jefferson [7] (D-LA)
  * Rep. Marilyn Musgrave [8] (R-CO)
  * Rep. Bob Ney [9] (R-OH)
  * Rep. Richard Pombo [10] (R-CA)
  * Rep. Rick Renzi [11] (R-AZ)
  * Rep. Charles H. Taylor [12] (R-NC)
  * Rep. Maxine Waters [13] (D-CA)
  * Sen. Conrad Burns [14] (R-MT)
  * Sen. Bill Frist [15] (R-TN)
  * Sen. Rick Santorum [16] (R-PA)

It was done by Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, a group that has also done investigations into Republican vote tampering, Swift Group, and Abramoff. She's also one of the leading congressional members who asserts that the CIA helped fuel the crack cocaine epidemic.

Social libertarian.

If it was a real scandal, the FBI would have arrested her by now. (0.00 / 0)

Just like Jefferson, who was taped getting 100k in cash? (0.00 / 0)

Audio only? (0.00 / 0)
Can anyone convert it to just an audio file?

It would be much better to circulate it that way.
