Lieberman's Bumper Sticker Lie

by: BranfordBoy

Sun Jul 09, 2006 at 15:12:42 PM EDT

There he goes again, getting caught in another lie. Joe Lieberman is running an ad showing a completely made-up bumper sticker attributed to the Lamont campaign. Not everyone was fooled. (Hat tip to Spazeboy for capturing the video.)

BranfordBoy :: Lieberman's Bumper Sticker Lie
LiberalOasis is on the case.

A TV ad, with a message approved by Sen. Joe Lieberman, uses a phony Ned Lamont bumper sticker to falsely claim that all Lamont has to say is "No More Joe."

The ad ran today on Hartford's Fox affiliate WTIC-61, during "Fox News Sunday." (It was also shown during C-Span's airing of the Lieberman-Lamont debate.)

The narrator begins the ad with: "In the battle of the bumper stickers, this one has a simple message: 'No More Joe.' But what else does Lamont really have to say?"

A graphic of a "NO MORE JOE" sticker is shown. The second line of the sticker reads: "Ned Lamont * Democrat for U.S. Senate". In the bottom right corner of the sticker is a URL, www.nomorejoe.com.

Problem is: there is no www.nomorejoe.com.

Go to the URL now, all you find is a placehoder page from the domain name registration company Go Daddy.

A search of the WHOIS database finds that the domain name was purchased not around the time Ned Lamont was considering a campaign, but in August 2004, by Paul Bentz of Highground, Inc. Highground is a Republican political consulting firm in Arizona.

Based on this Arizona Sports Fans Network bulletin board thread, it appears that nomorejoe.com was once a website attacking Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio, who was in a GOP primary against Dan Saban that summer.

Highground still owns the domain, though the registration expires next month.

This means two things are possible.

The Lamont campaign is the dumbest campaign in history, making bumper stickers sending people to dead website that they don't own.

Or the Lieberman campaign, desperate to find an attack line against a strong challenger, has to lie and pretend Lamont has nothing positive to say about his own platform.

...and demand that noise is made on this one.

Also, the *bumper sticker* was not endorsed by the Nedinator.  That issue should be raised as well.

Here's the LTTE I sent the Norwich Bulletin and Ray Hackett (4.00 / 1)
While Ray Hackett was whining about bloggers playing vigilante politics [“Bloggers revel in anonymity as they indulge themselves”, July 9, 2006], Bill Scher of Liberal Oasis reported that Lieberman is using a fake Lamont bumper sticker in his recent ad  http://www.liberaloasis.com/liberaloasisv2/theblog/2006/07/exclusive_lieberman_ad_uses_ph.php .  Why didn’t Mr. Hackett report this Lieberman lie?

Sen. Lieberman isn’t the only one we oppose.  The Mainstream Media has also failed in its civic duty to hold our elected leaders accountable.

Did it ever occur to Mr. Hackett that the progressive bloggers of today are the spiritual heirs of the Sons of Liberty http://www.u-s-history.com/pages/h635.html , you know those radicals who performed civil disobedience against the status quo of their era, like dumping tea into Boston Harbor and holding greedy merchants accountable?  Blogs today are what pamphlets were to the 18th century Patriots.

Progressive bloggers aren’t driven by ideology in their opposition to Sen. Lieberman.  Watch the video of the creator of the famous “Kiss” float that followed Sen. Lieberman at Willimantic’s Boombox parade http://www.myleftnutmeg.com/showDiary.do?diaryId=1880 (at bottom of diary).  Is this man a vigilante or a patriotic parent?

And it may surprise, Mr. Hackett, that some of us bloggers are also members of Democratic Town Committees and activist groups.

Double header this morning on Rachael Maddow's show. She had a great phone interview with Ned the first hour and then covered the bumper sticker issue during the 8am hour.

Yep it is...

That whole independent bid thing made it a whole lot more complicated.

Frankly, No More Joe (0.00 / 0)
is enough of a message for me. How nice that Joe marched for civil rights in the '60's. What have you been doing lately, Joe?

How About (0.00 / 0)
Holy Joe Must Go!  The point is, Lieberman has shown that he lacks the independence, honesty, and wisdom to represent us further on important, life-or-death matters of state.  Very simple.

Lieberman: you can't trust this guy to fix the problem I created.

If you need help getting your car out of a ditch, would you turn to the guy who just drove it in there or to the stranger who stops to help?

It's all about issues (4.00 / 1)
The Huffington Post has a great summary of Lieberman's multiple failings:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/cenk-uygur/note-to-dense-mainstream-_b_24654.html

I'd have voted for any Democratic over Joe, but what a pleasure having Ned Lamont to turn to in this time of Democratic need. Joe wished he had a paper-tiger candidate from the far left. He got more than he bargained for with Ned. Lieberman had better start a serious campaign against Lamont, who is a candidate of issues and substance, instead of running against some fictitious challenger of his dreams.

and, from the same (4.00 / 1)
He doesn't just vote with Republicans, he relishes it. He talks like them, he walks like them, he is them. It's not the Iraq War vote people care about nearly as much as when he said, "It is time for Democrats who distrust President Bush to acknowledge that he will be commander-in-chief for three more critical years, and that in matters of war we undermine Presidential credibility at our nation's peril."

That's going out of your way to support not just their ideology and their war, but to support their demagoguery. It's ugly and it reeks. We get plenty enough of that from Republicans, we don't need any of that from so-called Democrats.

Is Lieberman breaking any political campaign laws by doing this?

Bill and Hillary's tactics (0.00 / 0)
Lanny Davis, Bill and Hillary's classmate at Yale and Special Counsel while at the WH attacked Ned big time using Joe's talking point today on Washington Journal. Any thoughts on whether B&H gave him the green light?

My letter to the Lieberman campaign (0.00 / 0)
Dear Ken,

You invited me to write back and ask questions of the campaign, so here I go. Why is the Lieberman campaign lying about a bumper sticker that the Lamont campaign never produced?

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Your new AD claims Ned Lamont has a bumper sticker saying, "No More Joe" when his campaign has never had this. So I guess the conclusion we can draw from this is "Ned Lamont may have superficial bumperstickers but Joe Lieberman supports sleazy, Karl-Rove-like tactics and lies to smear his opponent." Once again, you should all be ashamed.
C'mon Ken, leave the dark side. Be a true Jedi and true Democrat and abandon Joe.

Sincerely,

Actually, I Kind Of Like The The Fake One (0.00 / 0)
I know, I know, that's not PC- we are supposed to be enthralled with this great new contender, not just be concerned with finding a way to knock out any neocon we can. But seriously folks, I do like what I see so far. Now, this is OT, but go down to the Magazine shop tomorrow and pick up a copy of the August issue of Vanity Fair. Turn to page 112.

Here's a nice song about the BIG LIE- let's hope it gets you stirred up enough to do something about it. Joe Must Go is just a small part of the job we must do to get our democracy back...
