"Go For It, Mr. Lamont!"

by: Maura

Thu Jun 29, 2006 at 13:51:07 PM EDT

Wow.  Ned Lamont's newest ad may be the best political ad I've ever seen.  It features his students from Harding High School in Bridgeport, where Ned, a successful small business owner, was a volunteer teacher of an entrepreneurship class, co-teaching with an accounting teacher.

Check it out.

I'm a teacher, so this obviously hits close to my heart.  I have to say I had tears in my eyes when the teenagers said, "Go for it, Mr. Lamont!"

What do you think?

Best. Ad. Ever. (4.00 / 2)
Some days you remember that politics is supposed to about hope. About the future. About making things better for those who follow us.

Rock the Boat, Ned!

Orange Bulletin story (0.00 / 0)
Amity grads looking at bigger picture on Capitol Hill

While many Amity graduates were busy thinking of their graduation the next day, last Wednesday Sid Nadkarni and Kyle deCant had other things on their minds. Namely doing their part to get a candidate elected to the United States Senate..

The Greenwich millionaire, Ned Lamont, was the topic of a house party held at Nadkarni's home.

You guys?

Lamont has three children and all have graduated from public school. He is not accepting funds from lobbyist's money and has proposed a spending cap for both candidates of $7 million, which Kevin said Lieberman has already raised.

The best part.... (0.00 / 0)
....about this article is that it gets Ned's stance on a number of issues out there under the guise of a human interest story about politically-minded teens. Excellent, excellent.

Not me, I'm way out of school (0.00 / 0)
I was surprised and elated to see this story. Glad I'm not the only one in Orange who sees the light.

Ned's kids graduated from public school? (0.00 / 0)
That is damn impressive in itself.

More of this, please. (4.00 / 1)
This is fantastic.  Tom, Tim, and all the rest of the staff, please do more media like this.  Keep it real positive as much as you can.

I've been hearing a number of people say they've heard enough already with attack ads (and yes I'm well aware people always say this).  But I think Lieberman's negatives are public knowledge, and we can keep them front and center best by positive contrast. That's what I'm trying to do when talking to people.

This ad hits it out of the park.  Get this in front of people every chance we get, and I think we're sold.

Totally agree (0.00 / 0)
I totally agree.  The free media that Joe gets just drives his negatives up, anyway, since most people find him sanctimonious and grating when he talks.  He's also pretty defensive and angry about this primary.

The positive ads about Ned are just what is needed right now.  Democratic voters are primed with Joe's negatives and ready for a positive, new direction.  This ad is exactly the right direction for the campaign:  it's fresh, moving, and positive.  Now we just have to get more people to donate so they can do a bigger ad buy!

Bingo. (0.00 / 0)
Plenty of people don't like Lieberman. But they don't yet have a reason to go out on August 8 and vote FOR Lamont. Without that reason, they'll register their distaste for Joe by staying home. Ads like this will make them want to get out and  elect Ned.

Awesome ad! (0.00 / 0)
I hope this will be played on local TV soon.

Great ad! (0.00 / 0)
I think this will reasonate very well among Democratic voters.

I hope it's good (0.00 / 0)
It sounds like it's better than the first round of commercials, so I'm optimistic. I can't wait to look at it when I get home.

We need to get this on Kos, myDD, etc. and recommend it up.

The Urban Vote (0.00 / 0)
This is great.  Lieberman has the Big City Democratic machines working for him, but this will help balance out the urban vote.

Family, Friends, and Neighbors (4.00 / 1)
Hi, Sue -

Have you tried the Family, Friends, and Neighbors tool for Ned Lamont's campaign?

You can use this tool to send personalized postcards from you to all of your colleagues in your school, parents of former students (and students who've grown up and can now vote) and all of your neighbors and friends.

I've started to send postcards to my colleagues letting them know that Ned's been endorsed by CEA and AFT-CT and to remind them to get absentee ballots if they'll be on vacation on August 8.  It's a really powerful and easy-to-use tool!

Repeat this theme with other demographics (0.00 / 0)
How about an ad where Ned features veterans?
How about an ad where Ned features seniors?
on and on.

The best innovation is that "and so do we" refrain. It perfectly frames Ned as the man of the people.

Great idea! (0.00 / 0)

great ad (0.00 / 0)
i absolutely loved this ad - only part that made me laugh was the bridgeport sign that had fabrizi's name on it, but that's not important at all. this is definitely one of the best political ads on the season, great job hillsman.

"The work goes on, the cause endures, the hope still lives and the dreams shall never die." - Teddy Kennedy

Take that, Joe! (4.00 / 2)
It is a great rejoinder to Lieberman's lie that Ned Lamont cut the education budget in 1993 when he was on Greenwich's BET.  He didn't; he voted to increase education funding that year 4.2% and added 17 teachers for Greenwich High School.  And guess what?  He also volunteered to teach two classes at the school that year!

Lieberman says Lamont's wealth prevents him from understanding the problems of common folk.  Well, I haven't seen Joe Lieberman teaching any classes at inner city high schools.  For that matter, until the last couple of months, we haven't seen Lieberman anywhere in Connecticut!

Give 'em hell, Ned!
