Lieberman Walks With Republican Nancy Johnson In Waterbury Parade

by: Larkspur

Mon May 29, 2006 at 07:36:01 AM EDT

(This is un-freakin' believable! And it perfectly illustrates the problem with Joe Lieberman. That's Nancy in the blue dress. Apologies for being so slow off the mark in promoting this, but better late than never. - promoted by BranfordBoy)

Are they discussing his possible Independent run?

The ultimate image: Lieberman walks with Republicans (0.00 / 0)
Chris Murphy should be outraged. State Democrats should be outraged. Here we have one of the best chances at grabbing a seat, and Lieberman is helping the Republican, not the Democrat.

Effing unbelievable.

Yeah, so much for his claim that... (0.00 / 0)
...being on the ballot will HELP Democrats.  He wouldn't even march with a fellow Democrat in the parade.

Liar, hypocrite: Joe Lieberman.

as much as i dislike nancy johnson he's not helping her or running for her. he's walking with her in a parade they both attended. what's so bad about that? i don't like lieberman, but the fact that he walked with a republican doesn't mean that he's helping republicans over democrats

[ Parent ]
nevermind i take back what i said (0.00 / 0)
i just read "mel_gibson"'s comment

[ Parent ]
I hadn't even thought of that.. (0.00 / 0)
What a bastard Joe is. And he's not helping Diane either with his lovefest for Chris Shays. Oh I pray we can get rid of this deadwood.

Can I just say . . . (0.00 / 0)
That it was really HOT walking with a 4 yo on my shoulders that whole parade!  Ned offered to take her for awhile (because he is truly a good man), but he got busy actually shaking hands and you know - doing his job.  Ned's aide did take her for a little bit - but man my back hurt later that night!

Is it true that Lieberman shook your hand (0.00 / 0)
and not Ned's?

[ Parent ]
No, he didn't shake mine. (4.00 / 1)
I had Fiona on my shoulders and wasn't in a hand shaking position.  It did take him - I'd say - at least 45 seconds of looking like a deer in the head lights before reaching out to grasp Ned's proferred hand.  He had a very bizarre frozen grimace on his face as if he knew he was supposed to smile, but he just couldn't.  Someone said somebody got it with a camera, but I haven't seen at shots of that particular weird moment.

The Senator did give me a big, genuine smile when I later spoke to Ken Dagliari and gave him a hug (one year anniversary of his Mom's death - and I like Ken).

Sorry, but Kim Hynes Needs to Resign... (1.00 / 1)
There are lies, and then there are Lying liars...

Kim, can you please explain this picture? It would seem to show you, with Fiona on your shoulders, shaking hands with Joe Lieberman in the chummy presence of Lieberman chief aide Ken Dagliere, Republican Congresswoman Nancy Johnson, etc...

The blogosphere can appreciate collegial impulses, BUT, if you can't be fundamentally truthful, --should we entrust Hynes & Co. with out hopes and dreams?

The picture suggests a certain comraderie between yourself, Ken Dagliere, Nancy Johnson, Revoltin' Joe, and your self. Do you have a truthful defense?

[ Parent ]
Fiona doesn't look too pleased (0.00 / 0)
And Nancy Johnson is blocking the actual handshake, so we don't know if the two hands actually ever did meet.

Sigh!!

[ Parent ]
Or... (0.00 / 0)
Given the photograph that DeanFan points to, you can't tell if Kim is offering Joe a "Dump Joe" pin, simply extending a single digit, pointing at an unzipped fly or simply saying that she is going to work for the Democratic Nominee on August 9th no matter who wins the nomination, and urging Joe to do the same.

Since it was a hot morning, and Kim was focusing on other things we will probably never know.

Personally, I hope we can all focus on the task at hand of Ned visibility and identifying voters.

Snort! Maybe I just blocked it out! (0.00 / 0)

[ Parent ]
Hmm - looking at the pic - maybe we did. (0.00 / 0)
Not being untruthful, just poor memory of the moment.  Good thing the bloggers are on hand to record every moment!

In Lieberman's Defense, He is quite discriminating about the company he keeps (4.00 / 2)

Yes, a picture is indeed worth 1000 words.

Joe and Friends

Full Disclosure: these are all real photos, no manipulation or PhotoShop trickery. My personal favorite is the one with Barney - two Dinos standing together.

I must have several hundred of these pics by now, some of them quite raw indeed. These are relatively tame though.

Btw, dodd was also in that Barney shot.

For some reason my images won't appear inline (0.00 / 0)
any idea what the problem is? I ended up linking to it because it wouldn't show up.

They're showing up inline for me n/t (0.00 / 0)

Kim Hynes can do anything she wants (0.00 / 0)
Being polite is not the same as conspiring. Kim does not need to defend herself in any manner.

Tessa, I am pretty sure he was joking. But thank you! (0.00 / 0)

[ Parent ]
Ummmm -- (0.00 / 0)
I don't like Lieberman any more than the rest of you -- BUT -- it was a Memorial Day march, not a political rally.  On such an occasion, people should be non-partisan and respectful.

I was at the Redding parade and Dick Blumenthal marched with Chris Shays and Judi Freedman (Republican State Senator).  They were walking together.

Blumenthal (4.00 / 1)
He is as bad as Liebo - he marched with Shays in Monroe, when Farrell was also marching.  what a joke.  They want loyalty - but don't return it.

[ Parent ]
Not exactly (4.00 / 1)
Such parades are meant to honor the veterans and their sacrifice.  But they are also meant to honor our democracy and way of life.  Politicians have marched in such parades throughout our history.  But they are most assuredly honoring our democracy while also campaigning for office.

It is unheard of for politicians of rival parties to march together.  Mr. Blumenthal was wrong to march with the Republicans, especially Chris Shays who has engendered so much animosity in this part of the state, and whose seat is of crucial importance if the Democrats are to retake the Congress and restore some semblance of political sanity and fiscal responsibility to that body.

We Democrats are tired of the excuses from Democratic politicians who continue to pander to the Republicans' Hard Right.  Democratic leaders need to understand the zeitgeist of the country and their supporters.

No more excuses.

Lieberman campaign responds! Total BS (0.00 / 0)
Thank you for your strong interest in our Democratic party.  Just to clarify the picture below, it is the protocol of the Waterbury Memorial Day Parade to have elected officials march together at the start of the Parade. As you can see, State Sen Joan Hartley and the Waterbury Board of Alderman Majority Leader (a Dem) are also in the picture while the Dem Mayor of Waterbury is just out of the picture which was neither taken nor posted by our campaign.  Please be assured that the Senator has 100% publicly endorsed Chris Murphy and is committed to help make him the next Congressman from the 5th as Democrats seize the opportunity in front of us and take back the US House of Representatives.  Please feel free to contact me should you have any further questions or comments.

Kenny c

he is just walking with her.. (4.00 / 1)
because she is the only one who makes him look tall

[ Parent ]
frames (4.00 / 2)
When I first saw this I thought, damn good frame for Lamont.

Then I read Leiberman's response...

and I thought...

Better farme...

Frame:

Joe Lieberman has indicated that he walked with Johnson in Waterberry because they were both elected officials. That seems to be a dran good reason for him to stand side-by-side with every elected member of the GOP. He got a kiss from President Bush, because he walks side-by-side with the GOP on most issues. He likes walking side-by-side with the GOP, either literally or figurativly. He could have choosen to walk with Democrats, there was no order that he walk with the GOP. He choose to. Just like he has on the energy bill, the Alito and Roberts nominations, school vouchers, elimination of scoail security, bankrupcy bill, and a host of other issues in which he remains out-of-step with the Democrats, but walks the GOP line, hand-in-hand with the Bush plan. Of course he deserves a kiss.

The question is not what you are, we already determined that, we are now negotiating price.
