by: BranfordBoy

Second hand, but from the proverbial reliable source: A highly placed member of Democratic State Central is of the opinion that Joe Lieberman will leave theParyy within the next two weeks to run as an independent.

Stay tuned.

That is huge! I take back everything I've ever teased you about! Keep us updated!

(Comment cross-posted at DailyKos, heheh.)

Here's ctkeith with the details (4.00 / 1)

Jeez (0.00 / 0)
You guys are bringing blogging to a whole new level of speed. I'll be holding my breath for the next two weeks now.

That soon? We have to be sharp (0.00 / 0)
There's lots of work to be done to make such as move as damaging for Joe as possible.

First, we need frame this ASAP, before he actually does it.  Simply reacting is not enough - Joe will have defined the terms of debate through his announcement.  We have to pre-empt that.  Fortunately, with all of Joe's recent talk about being a strong Democrat (there are lots of quotes and campaign literature to pick from), this is easy.

[My initial draft LTTE:

Many of us Democrats have been upset with Joe Lieberman because he continues to refuse ruling out a 3rd party run.  So, in a way, I'm really glad to hear the new Lieberman brags about being a strong Democrat:  After making such a big deal of his strong party credentials, and even implying Ned Lamont is a Democratic imposter, Joe would have to be the worst hypocrite ever to leave the Democratic Party and run against its nominee.  He wouldn't do that to us, would he? ]

Second, we need to be ready to have a coordinated action once Joe actually bolts.  More LTTEs, appeals to get involved with Ned's campaign using Joe's betrayal as a prime motivator, etc.  By the way, I'd recommend having your letters to the editor already written, so all you have to do is press send when Joe bolts.  Your chances of publication are much higher if you get them in early.

I never hope to see anyone lose hope, but seriously... overconfidence and really boastful statements like that don't help our cause.

Wait... (0.00 / 0)
What are you talking about?

Get the language right at least.

If this happens, Chuck Schumer needs to IMMEDIATELY denounce Lieberman and set an example for the rest of the Democratic Caucus by announcing his unconditional support for Lamont and the Democratic Party.

if he leaves (4.00 / 1)
1) get a list of everyone who has given him money for the last 3 years

2) create a form letter as follows:

Dear {name},

You donated {dollar amount} to Senator Joe Lieberman. When you dod that you may have thought that you were donating to a Democrat. Well you weren't. Joe Lieberman has announced that he will run AGAINST the Democratic candidate for the Jr. Senator seat from CT. He is using YOUR money to do it. We are asking you for two things. If you thought you gave your donation to a Democrat, please ask for your money back. At the same time, you can make a statement about being defrauded by Joe Lieberman by donating {dollar ammount * 2 |or| max amount) to Ned Lamont's Democratic Campaign to be the Senator from CT.

Thank you for your support of CT Demiocrats.

{your name}

3) send that letter to everyone on the list

Let's hit Lieberman where it hurts the most, in his wallet. He can refuse to return money, and if he does, then we can start a letter writting campaign to the newspapers about hos he defrauded contributors and is not returning funds that were donated to him as a Democrat while he runs against a Democrat.

Letters like:

LTE:

Why didn't he just join the GOP? I mean he took millions promising people that he was a Democrat and now he is using their money to run against a Democrat. While not the corruption of the GOP, he is showing the immorality that they have shown. Taking money for one thing and then using it for another used to be referred to as fraud. It's sad to see Joe Lieberman participating in defrauding contributors.

HThe CT GOP already love the man, he is Bush's favorite Democrat, let's make sure that people thing of him as immoral, defrauding and corrupt. The GOP will still vote for him, but the Dems won't.

The question is not what you are, we already determined that, we are now negotiating price.
