The Scrooge from Nutmeg Country

by: Scarce

Via The Hill:

Sen. Joe Lieberman's (I-Conn.) favorable ratings have taken almost a 10-point drop in the past two weeks, a new poll found.

31 percent of people told a CNN poll conducted Dec. 16-20 that they had a favorable opinion of Lieberman, a key Senate centrist who'd opposed healthcare reform only until recently. Opinion toward Lieberman, though, was down from a 40 percent favorable rating in the same CNN poll conducted December 2-3 of this year.

Poll respondents' unfavorable opinion of Lieberman ticked upward over the same period.

Guess this is equivalent to "coal in the stocking" for Lieberman (0.00 / 0)
Santa says you've been naughty, Sen. Lieberman.

"If those in charge of our society...can dominate our ideas, they will be secure in their power. They will not need soldiers patrolling the streets. We will control ourselves." ~~Howard Zinn

31% (0.00 / 0)
The fact that 31% in Ct  have a favorable impression of that turkey says more about them  then it does about us.2012 wont come fast enough  for me.

It is a poll of all Americans (0.00 / 0)
..which is why 17% responded "never heard of", perhaps the most disquieting aspect for Lieberman in the entire poll.

"Senate centrist"?! "Centrist"? What's wrong with these people!? (0.00 / 0)

How in the world can one be the darling of the acknowledged founding father of modern conservatism, William F. Buckley, jr., and by any stretch of the imagination be considered a "centrist"?  Just shows how out of touch the media are with reality.

Centrist!  Incredible!

Your Correct (0.00 / 0)
Obama flak would have been much more appropriate.

Is there anyone left in the world who hasn't figured out Joe Lieberman did exactly what was asked of him by the Whithouse in the HCR fiasco?

Keith Has A Point Here That Has Validity (0.00 / 0)
Keith might be onto something here. From my watching the White House from afar, they seemed at best ambivalent to the public option and medicare buyin...even though Obama campaigned on them.In addition, even if Obama put the White House operation on total assignment for the public option and medicare buyin, the 60 votes were never there and we all know  it.

Buyers Remorse Over Obama? (0.00 / 0)
I Don't have any at all because I knew exactly what I was getting with Obama and after 8 yrs of Bush I was willing to accept having what is basically a DLCer in the Whitehouse.

If you're a liberal, like I am, you better get used to and accept being very disappointed for the next 7 years or they're going to be very very long. The up part is they'll be 10,000 times better than the last 8 and by then the country may well be tired of being and absorbing the costs of Empire.

I have to go make the Lasagna now so Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to All!!

Any Senator could have derailed this lousy bill (4.00 / 1)
... but none did. Had the Senate leadership used reconciliation at the start, when they knew they wouldn't have the votes for a public option, they could have passed it with 51. Or they could have used the nuclear option to get rid of the filibuster.

I agree that Obama capitulated to the health care lobbies, but so did the Senate.

Given the fact that the public option had overwhelming support and U.S. representatives ignored their constituents and paid off their campaign donors instead, America's representative "democracy" took a huge hit. I honestly don't know how to describe this current system of government, but it's certainly not a representative democracy.

Its no different then its ever been (0.00 / 0)
Why  would anyone be surprised that a President and Congress listen to the rich and powerful before the grass roots and every day people? We will get better government then Bush ever gave us and be prepared  to  be disappointed  for the next 3 years over things.

Capt (0.00 / 0)
Don't blame the Senate. This process was totally orchastrated by the Whitehouse and Obama got the exact bill he wanted.

He made deals with Big Pharma,Big Hospitals and Big Insurance BEFORE the debate even started in the Congress and those deals were kept.A Public Option and medicare expansion were not  part of the deals and any President will tell you keeping your word with corperate America is much more important than with the people of America.

The Senate wrote the bill ... (0.00 / 0)
... and 60 Senators voted for it. It's hard for me to not blame the Senate.

But yes, Obama deserves blame too, for all the reasons you listed.

I just hope the conference committee can fix the bill.

The ultimate proof (0.00 / 0)
... will be in July of 2012, when Obama and Lieberman are both running for re-election. Will Obama put his thumb on the electoral scale for Joe -- at the risk of activist support that he may need to make it to a second term?

It seems to me that that political moment is one that's worth organizing around.

Will Chris Dodd? (0.00 / 0)
I wonder if Dodd will campaign for Lieberman. My guess is that they both will.

Hey folks, happy holidays. I'm gettin' ready for dinner. Keith, enjoy that lasagna.

One of these days we should have a bloggers holiday party.

Peace.
