CT-SEN-2012: Lieberman Raises Just $4,100 in Third Quarter

by: tparty

Tue Oct 20, 2009 at 09:43:57 AM EDT

Adding to speculation that he may be planning to retire at the end of his term in 2012, Sen. Lieberman has filed his October report with the FEC and reported raising only $4,100 in the third quarter (PDF). Lieberman now has $1.31 million cash on hand, down from $1.41 million at the end of Q2, continuing a downward trend in his bank account since the closing days of the 2006 campaign. He had raised over $70,000 in each of the previous two quarters of 2009.

Lieberman also seems to have secured his standing in the Democratic caucus until at least 2010 with a $50,000 payment to the DSCC on September 29th and a $4,000 payment to Harry Reid's campaign on September 25th. Seems like a decent rate for a committee chairmanship.

And Joe isn't even under criminal investigation or had a sex scandal! (0.00 / 0)
Even John Ensign pulled in $33,000 last quarter.

The sex scandal surrounding Sen. John Ensign has had a devastating effect on his once-mighty fundraising machine.

According to newly filed campaign finance reports, Ensign pulled in just under $33,000 between July and September; that's down from the $301,792 he raised in the previous quarter. He spent more than he raised last quarter, shelling out $46,000 on legal fees, meetings, political consultants and administrative expenses.

Something very odd about Lieberman's numbers.

Is this unusual for a senator three years from re-election? (0.00 / 0)
Given that this is a relatively small state, is this normal, or is Lieberman usually far ahead in fundraising at this point in the cycle?  Anyone know?

It is unusual for a Senator to report such low numbers (0.00 / 0)
...but Lieberman marches to the beat of his own drummer. Earlier this decade just after he ran with Al Gore he reported some really low quarters ($4965 in the last quarter of 2001) but began ramping that up for his ridiculous presidential campaign.

Time to Watch Himes' Positions vis-a-vis Lieberman's (0.00 / 0)
It may just be time to observe whether or not Representative Himes' views become more harmonious or--even synchronized--with Lieberman's. That could signal where someone with Himes' strong credentials is headed. One may even observe some of the enthusiasm of a convert or acolyte. Not so good... unless, of course, you think that Lieberman's "not so bad."

Lieberman still a joke...... (0.00 / 0)
this one made me LMAO!       At least until I got to the part where Harry Reid and the DSCC could be bought !
How Lieberman ever kept those committee seats is beyond me !

Lieberman fundraising (4.00 / 1)
No need to rush - if Joe's votes help cancel or slow down health insurance reform the Aetnas, Cignas and Uniteds will have billions to send ole Joe's way.  Doesn't take very long for Insurance Co checks to clear...
