Lieberman Reiterates Threat To Support GOP Filibuster

by: tparty

Wed Oct 14, 2009 at 09:38:26 AM EDT

"The question is, do I trust Senator Lieberman? The answer is, yes, I trust Senator Lieberman.... We're looking forward, we're not looking back. We're not looking back at the 95 filibusters that were conducted, those are something that took place in the past. We're looking forward to the future, a future that we believe sets a new tone for America."

- Majority Leader Harry Reid, on the decision not to strip Sen. Lieberman's committee chairmanship, November 18, 2008 (video begins at 3:30 below)

Good thing we bent over backwards to keep him in the caucus. Otherwise he might be doing crazy things like threatening to join a Republican filibuster on health care reform, fifteen years after he played an integral role in... defeating health care reform.

Oh, wait:

Yesterday, Politico had yet another Lieberman response to the same question:

"Not vote for cloture? I wouldn't rule that possibility out - not at all," said Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.), who caucuses with the Democrats.

Over 85,000 people have signed the Progressive Campaign Change Committee's petition to Harry Reid demanding that:

"Any Democratic senators who support a Republican attempt to block a vote on health care reform should be stripped of their leadership titles. Americans deserve a clean up-or-down vote on health care."

You can sign the petition here.

The Perverse Conceit of Joe Lieberman is apparently unbounded (0.00 / 0)
- thanks for posting - I signed the petition linked at the end of the post.  Other readers should too!  And pass it on!

Petition Dodd too? (4.00 / 1)
Dodd fought harder than anyone to make sure Lieberman remained a committee chairman. Maybe Lieberman owes him a favor ...

November 2008:

FARMINGTON - U.S. Sen. Christopher J. Dodd renewed his support for his embattled colleague Joe Lieberman Saturday.

Speaking as he left a meeting on after-school programs in Farmington, Dodd again urged Democrats to put aside the idea of stripping Lieberman of an important committee chairmanship.

... Dodd said the nation is facing too many critical problems at the moment that require immediate action for resentment toward Lieberman.

He said Democrats should not allow themselves to be diverted from those issues by in intra-party squabble.
