Davefromqueens has died

(Very sad news... - promoted by ctblogger)

...aka as bigdavefromqueens here, and David Weintraub in real life.

Jonathan Ezor wrote:
For fans of Dave's, I wanted to pass along the following I got from his sister this morning via Facebook:

"I see that you are listed as a friend of Dave's. I am his sister Michelle. Dave passed away suddenly yesterday. We are unaware of the details as of yet and are awaiting the Medical Examiner's report but it seems that it may have been a medical issue such as a heart attack. As we (his sister Karen and I) were unaware of whom to contact for him, we are sending this message to the people listed on his Facebook account. The funeral will be early in the week and we should have details later today."

We've checked on this and it's true: my friend Dave Weintraub has passed away. I didn't want his blog not to reflect his passing. {ProfJonathan}

The last couple of years have proven to be erratic for his blogging, to say the least, but back in 2006 there was no fiercer opponent of Joe Lieberman and proponent of Ned Lamont around. Dave published a few diaries here which were front-paged as he was one of those who weren't at all afraid to openly confront those politicians he disagreed with.

The sign reads "Ann Coulter perfected Joe Lieberman and Richetelli".

Rest In Peace, Dave (0.00 / 0)
I've been reading the three or so diaries at Kos this morning regarding Dave. He was a spirited man by all means. I really enjoyed his diaries here during the '06 campaign and also his rants regarding Hannity at Kos.

I find it sad how he stumbled the last few months but I will remember and honor the true progressive man that fought for his beliefs.

My sympathy goes out to his family and friends. Rest in Peace, DavefromQueens. You will be missed.

I'm so sorry (0.00 / 0)
His was a courageous and strident voice for issues that were so important.  I met him once in New Haven at a gathering of bloggers.

To his family and friends, I am so sorry for your loss.  The progessive online community mourns with you.

During the Lamont campaign... (0.00 / 0)
... Big Dave was like a jolt of adrenaline. Few people could get you fired up the way he did -- whether it was a diary cutting Lieberman down to size or him showing up at a campaign event as Bush Man. Hilarious, righteous and effective.

My condolences to his friends and family. The progressive community has lost one of its heroes.

He'll be remembered (0.00 / 0)
He was one of a kind. Rest in peace, Dave.

Good bye, Big Dave (0.00 / 0)
Sorry to lose your song.  Thanks for being on the progressive ride with us, and bringing some outrageousness to some truly outrageous political situations.

Thanks to Michelle making the effort at a difficult time and for passing on the news.  My heart goes out to you.

I'm glad this was frontpaged in here. (0.00 / 0)
I must admit that this was the big news for me today--since I first read it at DKos this am. What a great loss. He was only 37 years old. His passion definitely showed in here. People may have disagreed with his techniques. But at the very least he tried to make a difference in his own way. Rest in peace, bigdavefromqueens.

I'll remember Dave... (0.00 / 0)
Not for his flame-out here at MLN, but for the time he showed up at the Stamford train station on a morning where Bloomberg was stumping for Lieberpuke.

Dave was all upset b/c the station cops wouldn't let him into the train station wearing his Bush mask. I spent at least ten minutes talking him down, taking the pro-authority side that post-9/11 masks were a legitimate no-no in some situations.

Then undeterred we went outside to were the formal presser was going to be, and Big Dave went right back at it, undeterred.

Passionate and stubborn. That was his combo.

And I'll miss him...

BigDaveFromQueens was Brave (0.00 / 0)
His "Look At Me" street theater was really "Look At Them" messaging. I can't pretend to have understood him most of the time, but he was right there to yell that the Emperor had no Clothes on.

Thanks for coming to CT so often and so righteously, Dave. It was, truly, Brave of you.

Condolences to his sisters and friends.

he was far too young and too full of life to have left us so suddenly. RIP and condolences to his family.

He seemed to think (0.00 / 0)
this quote was important:
"I shall not rest until right wing conservatives are 4th party gadflies
limited to offering minor corrections on legislation once or twice a year."

They aren't 4th party, yet, but they are halfway there. And they seem determined to try their best to get the rest of the way.

Newtown day parade 2006 (0.00 / 0)
I was attacked while holding my daughter Abigail, on her first birthday, at the Newtown day parade. Davefromqueens made Abby and me the 79th reason not to vote for Joe Lieberman. Rest in piece Dan, Lauren Abby and Conner.

I first met Dave in Newtown (0.00 / 0)
He was wearing his mask, and I was there with Lorenzo Sunflower. We instantly bonded - two nuts with our accessories who had made the trip to make a statement and march with fellow bloggers and Lamont supporters.

A snippy Newtown Republican parade organizer had given Dave a hard time about the mask a few minutes previously, and we commiserated about the lack of free speech today. Assholes.

Dave, I believe, never took his mask off during our talk.

I saw Dave later at the Himes Pub Quiz in Stamford. He was sitting by himself against a wall. Being the spiritual director and totally useless informational provenance for the Connecticut for Lieberman Team, I offered to help score some of the answer sheets with Maura.

Dave's team's sheets, (having one member), were easy to score - every answer was irreverent - like in totally wrong. He was not there to win the quiz, he was just there to see who was there and  be part of the group. Dave had made his bones.

I had never actually seen Dave before, but sometimes you just know who a person is without the previous visuals.

Sitting down with him, I asked, "Are you Dave from Queens?" Of course he was. He said he was teaching some law classes and going back to law school. I wanted to know how he got one recommended diary after the next on DailyKos. It would have taken years to teach me - sometimes magic is born, not made. He tried, he really did. He said hello to Lorenzo. I was glad he was there.

I know he truly enjoyed blogging. Can there be a more rewarding thing to do?
