GOP State Central Member Calls Himes A "Bigamist"

by: CaptCT

Tue Aug 26, 2008 at 13:07:26 PM EDT

Just one day after Chris Shays did his best Lee Whitnum impression by stalking Jim Himes at his press conference, his supporters are already busy setting a new low for classlessness. And it's still just August.

Republican State Central Committee member Doug Hageman from the 16th Senate District, who posts as "Authentic Connecticut Republican" on his blog and at Connecticut Local Politics (see his own confirmation of his identity here) just put up an astoundingly racist post this morning featuring a photo from yesterday's press conference where he calls Jim Himes a "bigamist". Here's his front page right now:

Hageman spews:

The children are clearly thrilled to have daddy stop by their neighborhood - maybe he should visit them more often.

Seems a shame he lets his own kids live in such a run down part of the city.

Between yesterday's unhinged tantrum by Shays and today's even more unhinged racist attack by a Republican State Central committee member, the traditional media in Connecticut needs to come to terms with the fact that this is the type of disgusting campaign the Republican Party and Chris Shays plan to run this year, from the top of the ticket on down.

Is this nutcase a frontpager over at ctlocalpoltiics? (3.00 / 4)
He's not doing Shays any favors by appealing to the radical fringe in this way.

not a frontpager but a regular (3.50 / 6)
He stepped over the line this time. When you're wrong on the issues, this is the kind of stuff you resort to.

And you're right, he's not doing Shays any favors with this. He should pull it down.

The disappearance of the New England republican (4.00 / 1)
...can be traced to examples like the mentality exhibited in that post. And as demographic shifts take place at an accelerated rate in the coming decades things will only get worse for the republicans who harbor these attitudes. It could well be, without trying to be overdramatic about it, that the republican party as we know it today will be forced to change or will become extinct, a backward relic of a bygone era.

Republican Party Evolution (4.00 / 4)
The current Republican Party is not the party of Abraham Lincoln or Theodore Roosevelt or even Dwight Eisenhower.  The current party is the party of Newt Gingrich, Jesse Helms, Tom Delay, Dick Cheney, et. al.  We in Weston are happy to welcome the new Democrats, both those who had never registered in Weston before, and those who switched their registrations in the past year.  Now the Democratic Party is the the majority party in Weston for the first time in my lifetime, outnumbering Us as well as Rs.  We will happily welcome others who may be repulsed by Dick Hageman and his ilk.

He made these comments on the Himes Flickr page too (0.00 / 0)

ACR just tossed you a "0".... (0.00 / 0)
And yes, I've met ACR/Doug Hageland, he's usually a nice guy, and this latest is whack.

Upgraded both just in case (4.00 / 1)
I guess you aren't allowed to disagree with him.

is this some sort of sad attempt at humor? (4.00 / 1)
I'm not quite sure how to react to this :-/

Funny how sometimes just a bit of stress (0.00 / 0)
can bring out a person true colors. Was he always like this? Gawd.

How is it racist? (0.00 / 1)
Appears fairly straightforwardly to be a joke - somewhat reminiscent of the "Ma Ma, Where's my Pa?" line used to taunt Grover Cleveland in the 1884 Presidential race in fact... albeit untrue in this case. (I'm assuming, I mean I've not heard any rumors.)

A fair criticism would be that it's "not funny" or "falls flat" but I don't see how it would be construed as racist.

but if the author is a Republican State Central Committee member (0.00 / 0)
could it not be construed as  libelous? I mean, the author is allegedly 'in the know'

it's certainly not FUNNY...

Based upon what, do you presume (0.00 / 0)
that the kids in the photos don't have fathers?

Oh, that's right, your own racism.

[ Parent ]
Where have you been? (4.00 / 1)
I haven't seen any of your conservative nonsense around here lately, so I thought you might have actually grown a pair and enlisted.  Guess not.  You Republicans are such cowards.

Hageman (0.00 / 0)
Hageman was considered a nutcase and a stalker over on the political Compuserve forums.  During one of his divorces, he spewed  anti-semitic remarks without end.  He was always offering to beat up people who disagreed with him (but of course he never showed up to do the deed),  and he'd make inappropriate comments to women who disagreed with him.  I know several women who were frightened of him -- he'd  creepily let on that he knew people's addresses.  He'd try to convince perfect strangers to meet him so he could buy them a drink.

I don't know if they keep archives over there, but if they do there's a wealth of Hageman nastiness to be found.

Kept asking about where my 7 year old went to school. (0.00 / 0)
Ah yes - I remember you.

You kept asking questions regarding my then 7 year old boy didn't you?

Nice to see they've given you back your computer privileges there at the institute.

As far as anything "anti-semitic " I'd love to see someone produce that.

Stalking?

I've been with my 2nd wife since shortly after my divorce.

Almost amusing (0.00 / 0)
but not quite.

We've sent some emails to see if anyone has your old comments.  If they do, we'll certainly share, Elmo.

Gee, didn't McCain lose SC back in "00, against Bush because poor John had fathered a black child out of wedlock? Of course, that was Rovian handiwork and it worked. Despite the fact that the McCains had actually adopted a child from Bangladesh.

But John is nothing if not a slow learned. It took him 8 years to hire the guys who torpedoed him. And now, the anti-black barrage is used by another Republican, this time, here in Connecticut and against a local Democrat.

As a bonus, now we have Chris crashing a Himes press event in a  massive display of denial. Wasn't all this originally presented on the Daily Show?

Stop Hitting Below The Belt (0.00 / 0)
I am totally apalled at this statement - "The children are clearly thrilled to have daddy stop by their neighborhood - maybe he should visit them more often.
Seems a shame he lets his own kids live in such a run down part of the city."

I personally know these children and I can attest - Jim Himes is not their father. Call him what you will, but it's stooping pretty low to use children in such an uncouth way.

If I was their mother you would be sued.  We are to protect children, not exploit or take advantage of their innocence.  Even if the original intent may have been a joke.

Went down to Greenwich today to visit mom (0.00 / 0)
and yes, there were some Shays/McCain signs - but they were supplemented by the same amount of Himes/Obama signs.

Driving down Greenwich Avenue, we saw a Himes/Obama table in front of the post office, surrounded by interested people.

We had lunch at Thataway Cafe (lucky to get a parking space) where Brittany Spears was just seen.

Returning home, and waiting for a traffic light on Mason Street, two cars, honking loudly and covered with Himes signs signs were observed driving down East Putnam in front of us.

I honked, opened my window, and waved.

Greenwich is changing. There was no evidence of Shays supporters there today.
