My Left Nutmeg

Thanks, I needed a laugh

It's raining, I had a nail in my tire, and gas prices even for regular are over $4 here in Greenwich. So I've been feeling a little down.

But then I went to the mailbox - and there was the letter from none other than Lee Whitnum ASKING ME FOR MY SUPPORT AS A DELEGATE!!

After I wiped away the tears of laughter, I thought I'd take you all for a a little trip down memory lane.

Because as an elected delegate for the 4th CD, I really feel like supporting someone who has sent me threating letters from fictitious lawyers and who at one point devoted an entire page of her campaign website to slagging me off (she's since taken it down and unfortunately I didn't take a screen shot, but it was defamatory and inaccurate enough that I actually talked to a REAL lawyer about it).

But leaving aside the personal attacks on yours truly, would I be a responsible delegate if I supported someone who continues to be in violation of FEC regulations? (She was almost 5 months late with her Q4 filing, hasn't filed Q1 nor has she filed her pre-convention filing which was due on April 30th.)

As a Jew, would I feel comfortable supporting someone who writes posts with titles like this one? (Oh yes, and that's the post where she called my brother and me the "Toxic Creepy Darer Twins" - yet another reason to support her...right!)

And then there's the report I got from my parents who attended the lecture by Alan Dershowitz last week here in Greenwich. Now most people on MLN know that Mr. Dershowitz and I would not see eye to eye on every issue - in fact, I just gave money to J Street, the new left wing Israel lobbying group. But Whitnum apparently got up at the Dershowitz lecture and blamed US support for Israel for 9/11. There was a picture of her in the paper with a police officer standing next to her, apparently waiting to arrest her. My mother said that Dershowitz told the police not to arrest her, because the US is a nation of free speech. But yeah, Lee, after you utter a statement like that, you think I'm going to support you, on top of everything else?

I sincerely hope Ms. Whitnum stays home and spares herself the humiliation on Monday night. But suffice to say, she isn't getting MY vote.

Zounds! (0.00 / 0)
I'm in Boston and the letter is in CT.

I'll scan it on Sunday when I return, if you haven't received it by then.

Lee- Sweet heart!! Stay home Monday night. Really! (4.00 / 1)
I recall listening to Lee Whitnum's rambling rant at the Greenwich Democratic Town Committee picnic last fall.  She said we should check where every male congressman was before 9/11, and check their credit card receipts to find out where they were.  She was blaming men for 9/11.  Have I got that right?  I wrote a post about it on Daily Kos.  No joke.

Let's see, Lee.  We could nominate Jim Himes, a Harvard graduate, a Rhodes Scholar who speaks fluent Spanish, who lived and studied in Central America and South America, who has worked for years in international finance, who then worked for years promoting solutions to the housing crisis through public-private partnerships that bring moderate-cost green housing to our region, who had the courage and integrity to stand up to his leadership and for Ned Lamont against Joe Lieberman when Lamont's candidacy seemed the longest of long shots, who has been unequivocal about his opposition to the war in Iraq, who has been steadfast in support of Social Security, who has backed universal health care, and who has worked hard in local government for years as a member of the Greenwich board of estimates and taxation, and the town's housing commissioner.........

Or we could nominate you.  Tough choice....

I think I'll go with Jim Himes.

You reminded me (4.00 / 2)
I meant to say, that on a more positive note, I'm PROUD to nominate Jim Himes for my Congressman. Au contraire to Ms. Whitnum's assertions that he is a typical Wall Street elitist, Jim is one of the brightest, most down-to-earth people I know.

And no, Lee, Jim did not pay me to say this. Nor did he wine me and dine me at his not particularly palatial home.

You mean to tell me that...... (0.00 / 0)
the Toxic Creepy Darer Twins will not be a powerhouse voting bloc at the convention?  You could be kingmakers!  You shouldn't be so rash in your decision.
