Lump in my throat (4.00 / 1)

Brought back the horrible memories of my younger brother serving half way around the world in the 70/80s. Every month or two, I would surprise him by calling. He would be crazily happy to hear a voice from home wanting to know every detail about grandmother to the family dogs to our hometown basketball team. These calls would cost me over $100 at that time and after thirty minutes I would have to reluctantly tell him that I needed to go. He would say one more question, then just one more minute and anything to keep me on the line longer. It killed me. In this day and age with cheap long distance and email, it's different yet the need to know that you are still remembered will never change.

but thanks, Mom! We still fought though when we saw each other. :) Now we are just a thousand miles apart but when our SEC team plays in March Madness, we call each other during half time and stay on the phone the rest of the game. Do you know how many good beers I've knocked over cheering or cussing because of a cell phone in my hand????
