Obama XLs in Hartford!

by: dauphinb

Mon Feb 04, 2008 at 22:20:38 PM EST

Video and photos from the Hartford Obama rally: also see Lon's diary with video here.

Fresh... if somewhat exhausted... from volunteering at the Obama rally in Hartford. The campaign hoped for about 10,000 people, but the XL Center, which I'm told holds over 16,000, was literally packed to the rafters:

If you could stand that poor (but hot off the presses) photo, you might also enjoy the equally poor (but equally hot off the presses) video below the fold...

Watched Olbermann tonight. And the very brief clips of Barack on the stump showed him hugging Rosa DeLauro, Chris Murphy and John Larson (where's Joe Courtney?). Even saw him shaking hands with Ned Lamont for the briefest of nanoseconds at one point. I guess he really was in CT. It's about time.

The arc of history is long, but it bends toward justice. --Martin Luther King, Jr.

Murphy... (0.00 / 0)
...was shaking hands after the event, and I asked him the same question:

where's Joe Courtney?

He said "well, I know Joe's got a different dynamic going on." I know that's true, but I wish it weren't so.

Anyway, the event was really energizing. Can't wait to spend the day tomorrow on GOTV. I'm taking vacation, and I've told the site coordinator to "use me like a rented mule."

Thanks for giving us a small taste of what being there must have been like.  Something to tell the grandchildren!

It sure was more than the crowd (0.00 / 0)
gathered to see McCain in Fairfield.

Won me over (4.00 / 3)
All I can say is WOW!!! Before this event, I had never attended a political rally that felt like a rock concert. I've never been at a political rally where the crowd does the wave before the speech--not just once but several times. I don't think it's possible to fully appreciate how inspiring, eloquent, and witty Barack Obama is until you actually hear him speak live and in-person. Although I was a bit late in jumping on the Obama wagon, I have to say I was really impressed by his speech last night. Also, after scanning the crowd, it was amazing to see how his support was both cross-racial, cross-generational, and cross-gendered. Little white old ladies cheering alongside hip hop youth and Asian Americans.

Plus, it was a real bonus to watch Caroline and Ted Kennedy.

Wow. Wow. Wow.

Beyond the amazing turnout, that's the most important sentence I've seen written about this historic event!

Obama will bring America back.  If he's good enough for the Kennedys, he's good enough for me!!    www.whytheDemocratswillwinin2008.com
