Do all the nonpolitical but voting people, grateful to "Chris" for his efforts on local issues like the air traffic route revision proposals, care about his other policies? And does a Judas peck on the cheek of a lame duck bother people the same way when they have the idea the end of Bush's power grab is in sight?
Thoughts to ponder before getting out the chicken wire.
I think CaptainCT's point about a sympathy play is very well taken, and there is an established reflexive meme about negativity -- Shays could try to ride e.g. the Obama hope train for the constituents who wake up in time to vote, and as we have seen, people get mighty pissed off when their hope train is sidetracked, even by rationality, but certainly by campaign tactics.
IMHO The Dems have their own hope train, should they decide to ride it, in Jim Himes's candidacy -- people may be sick to death of tactics and maneuvers and ready for a candidate who is so much nicer than Chris Shays that Shays looks like what he now has come to be.
