Volunteers wanted for Kucinich in New Hampshire

by: Bob Adams

Mon Dec 24, 2007 at 11:32:26 AM EST

(A request from the Connecticut HQ of "Dennis Kucinich for President":)

In this season of miracles, consider volunteering some time working for the presidential candidate who represents your core values.

We have a group of people traveling the four hours from Connecticut to Manchester NH to volunteer for democracy and for Dennis Kucinich's defense of democracy - for the final four days in advance of the New Hampshire primary.

Bob Adams :: Volunteers wanted for Kucinich in New Hampshire
Join us!

We have accommodations awaiting us in the homes of local volunteers, and expect to be doing visibility, going door-to-door discussing the issues, distributing material and then poll-spotting, providing transportation for elderly voters and finally - joining together with hundreds of like-minded people on primary night to continue working to defend America and our Constitution.

The principal contacts for this four-day event (Saturday-Tuesday; January 5th-8th) are Sal Liccione and David A. Stevenson:

Join us for ANY portion of the four days that you are able to.

Season of Miracles Indeed (0.00 / 0)
I'm glad to see that some people can hold true to their convictions, even when it's a lost cause.

According to the latest polls, with the margin of error Dennis Kucinich and Chris Dodd are in a statistical dead heat with ME.

Sorry for being such a cynic. It must be my seasonal effective disorder that recurs every election season.

Despite the polls (4.00 / 4)
I think a lot of people would rather volunteer for candidates like Chris Dodd or Dennis Kucinich even though they ARE a statistical long shot. They don't necessarily agree with the mega-million dollar corporate-funded MSM-selected front runners.

There's a lot to be said for being able to sleep well at night.  I'll keep talking about these guys until there's no possibility of them winning.  When the time comes, I'll fall in line with the Democratic nominee (whoever she may be).

I Understand (0.00 / 0)
I've certainly supported my share of long-shots. Perhaps that accounts for my cynicism of late. As a lifelong liberal Democrat, I'm tired of losing. Bill Clinton was the first and last successful Presidential candidate that I supported from beginning to end. [BTW, good article about Clintonism in yesterday's NY Times magazine. Sorry, no link.] I can't get excited by any of the frontrunners, and don't have the inclination or energy to get behind a longshot. So, I've decided to just be a wallflower and armchair pundit through the primaries.

How sad (0.00 / 0)
At this very moment I could not disagree with you more, but give me an hour or two and I will agree with you 100%.  My political bipolar disorder is directly due to the MSM and their cheerleading/spoonfeeding of who they consider the front-runners.  I have had it with Clinton-Obama and I couldn't care less about the Republicans at this time.  They could settle their primary by pistols at 10 paces on Pay-per-View and I would consider buying it.

I am behind Kucinich and will vote for him if he is still in whenever the primary reaches CT.  If he has dropped out by then, I will support Edwards.  My sister and her boyfriend are up from Baltimore and they are supporting Kucinich.  I hope he does better than expected so he can have a little more influence on the final platform of the Democratic Party, which will probably be another sell-out-Dammit, there I go again, heading in to another valley of despair over the direction of our party and nation.

Kucinich, Edwards at the CT Primary (0.00 / 0)
In 2004, Kucinich stayed in all the way to the convention, and I expect he will do the same this time around.  I have a lot of respect for him and hope you vote for him in the CT Primary, even though my first choice is Edwards.

Your comment about the platform is important.  In 2004 the Kucinich delegates worked hard to bring us a better platform, and I hope they do so again this year.

That said, I do hope you get a chance to support Edwards in the General election.

I Hope You're Right (0.00 / 0)
Hopefully some of the better (non-frontrunner or non-candidate) Democrats will have strong influence at the Convention. One of my concerns about Hillary winning is that she'll find a way to completely control and dominate the Convention agenda, as the Clinton's do with everything else in which they are involved.

The Progressive vote... (0.00 / 0)

I was a vocal supporter of Dennis Kucinich here and still believe that he is the most progressive candidate. However, one of the best things Hillary Clinton has going for her, is that Progressives are splitting their vote. Polls show Edwards handily beating any Republican. Clinton and Obama guarantee another very close election and run a strong risk of a GOP win. Clinton because of her astoundingly high negative ratings and Obama because the Republicans will use scare tactics about his inexperience.

Dennis K., Dodd, Gravel and Richardson are good people, but it doesn't appear it will happen for them. We can decry how the MSM has an inordinate influence all we want. But we need to deal with the situation as it is. Edwards can whip the Republicans in the fall. Progressives should consider speaking with a more unified voice and begin to look to John Edwards as the best hope for our ideals being applied to public policy.

Info Please (0.00 / 0)
Jake, do you have any links to the poll data you mention? I haven't seen anything that shows Edwards "handily beating any Republican." Hopefully it's true. Of the top 3, Edwards is definitely my first choice.

I suppose the biggest, and incredibly obvious problem for progressive/liberals is that no one actively courts our vote. All their efforts are focused on the iddle because they know that come the general, our votes can be pretty much taken for granted.

The only possible exception is Ron Paul. Though hopefully most progressives can't be fooled into thinking Paul is actually on our side.

Neal... (0.00 / 0)

It was a poll I saw on Hardball sometime last week. I don't recall who did the poll.

Edwards does seem to be courting us and with his skills on the hustings, I think he is our best bet.
