The Cheney Element

by: Scarce

Fri Oct 26, 2007 at 13:46:43 PM EDT

Sen. Webb is probably the only democratic Senator who will flat-out state Joe Lieberman's present role in the U.S. Senate. More's the pity...

Via Crooks and Liars:

On Thursday's Hardball Sen. Jim Webb (D-VA) talked with Chris Matthews about the strong push from Dick Cheney and some members of the Senate - namely Kyl and Lieberman - to move closer to invading Iran. Matthews gets it, by passing amendments condemning Iran, they're tying to get other legislators on the record so they can come back later and use it to make the case for war.

Matthews: "…But these guys, Kyl - Kyl and Lieberman are not diplomats, they're hawks.

Webb: "Well, the Cheney element of the administration is well represented in the United States Senate."

Chuck Hagel on the sanctions... (0.00 / 0)
From ThinkProgress.org

In his weekly news conference today, Sen. Chuck Hagel (R-NE), a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, sharply criticized the administration’s move, warning that it brings the United States one step closer to war:
“Unilateral sanctions rarely, ever work,” Hagel said by phone during his weekly news conference. “

I just don’t think the unilateral approach and giving war speeches helps the situation. It will just drive the Iranians closer together.” […] “It escalates the danger of a military confrontation,” Hagel said.

I certainly think engagement is critical … direct engagement,” said Hagel. “That’s what great powers do.”

"I'll give him credit - he is what he says" (0.00 / 0)
NO, Chris Matthews should NOT be giving Joe credit for being what he says, because he fought tooth and nail the efforts to UNlabel him as a Democrat and misrepresented who he was before the election. I hope citizens who voted for him rue not parsing his campaign statement "No one wants to bring the troops home more than I do" with a Veg-O-Matic (which in my childhood claimed to be able to slice a tomato thin enough to last all winter...).

It's like he took lessons from Larry Craig, or was it the other way around?

He is so fluent in mouthing earnest, semi intellectual but in the end empty statements.  Are people still slurping it up?  A walking political DQ Blizzard - the snow job is just not sweet.
