My Left Nutmeg

Katrina, August 29, 2005

by: connecticutyankee

Two years ago when Branfordboy had just launched MyLeftNutmeg into the blogosphere, perhaps, in hopes of satiating the progressive thirst for a progressive voice in his Constitution state, a monster of a storm oscillated into the Gulf of Mexico to forever change the geography of New Orleans. The ensuing catastrophe subsequently helped open the eyes of the entire nation to the inadequacies of it's government and it's current president.

connecticutyankee :: Katrina, August 29, 2005

A category 5 juggernaut of nature at its peak, Hurricane Katrina plowed through just east of New Orleans and right into the Gulf Coast of Mississippi--wreaking unimaginable devastation in its path. While local, state and federal governments failed miserably in protecting its citizens, more than 1800 people died. The frustration of a nation watching in real time was so palpable that one celebrity cries out in national television:

George Bush doesn't care about black people.

Whether this was a fair or an unfair accusation, Katrina emboldened the left in their poor opinion of the president--and gave the right some doubt of whether this president could actually help them when the next national disaster--man-made or natural--hits.

He can't help it (4.00 / 1)
Look at who raised him.

From the Editor & Publisher:

Barbara Bush said: "Almost everyone I've talked to says we're going to move to Houston."

Then she added: "What I'm hearing which is sort of scary is they all want to stay in Texas. Everyone is so overwhelmed by the hospitality.

"And so many of the people in the arena here, you know, were underprivileged anyway, so this--this (she chuckles slightly) is working very well for them."

The arc of history is long, but it bends toward justice. --Martin Luther King, Jr.
