Attorney General Joe Lieberman?

by: Missy's Brother

Tue Aug 28, 2007 at 06:38:35 AM EDT

http://news.bostonhe...

I figured this talk was coming.

A more intriguing pick, Sherrill said, would be Sen. Joe Lieberman, the hawkish Connecticut Democrat whose nomination would allow his state's Republican governor to appoint his replacement - wresting control of the Senate from Democrats to a tie between the two parties.

Afterwards, Little Joe can then retire thinking that he put the icing on his career, instead of hanging around in 2008 being in the minority with no one listening or caring.

Intriguing, but no. (0.00 / 0)
Why do they always ask political science professors who have no experience in Washington and who ignore the habits of the Bush administration? For instance, Bush nearly always promotes through cronyism and loyalty, someone this administration can trust to do their bidding.

(Hey, wait a second...)

"political science professors who have no experience in Washington" (0.00 / 0)
... and also are unaware of the organizing resolution that governs the Senate until 2009.

Every single red-state Senate Dem could die this year in a catastrophic accident and control of the Senate still wouldn't pass over to the Republicans.

How about conservative prof Gary Rose? (0.00 / 0)
Local media are always quoting Sacred Heart University's Rose, who always finds a way to praise Republicans (including Lieberman) and diss Democrats.  I hope that the media finally acknowledge that he is a conservative pundit and only put him on TV or quote him if balanced by a pro-Democratic pundit.

This is the guy, after all, who said that Lieberman had run a principled campaign.  QED.

Or even Peter Brown of Quinnipiac (0.00 / 0)
..who frequently writes for rightwing sites, such as realclearpolitics.com. (Doug Schwartz is another story...)

[ Parent ]
Schwartz was a Lieberman Hit Man last year!! (0.00 / 0)
Good point!  It was incredible how he manipulated his poll findings every time to conclude that Lamont was losing- while he continued to gain ground on Lieberman throughout the primary.

Joe as AG (0.00 / 0)
The only way Joe would give up a 6 year gig for a 16+ month gig is if he is hoping to leverage the AG spot into a run for V.P. either as a Repub. or a "Unity" candidate.

Look Ahead (0.00 / 0)
Do we really want a Republican incumbent Senator to have to run against in 2012?

Or a retiring Joe ( forcefully or otherwise?)

Two things (4.00 / 1)
#1: If there is a senate vacancy before apx. June 2008, the Governor appoints a successor, but the election to fill the remainder of said senator's term will be in November 2008:

Sec. 9-211. United States senator; vacancy

#2: As has been repeatedly reported, any change in the balance of power in the U.S. Senate, whether due to a party switch of any individual Senator or a replacement due to retirement or vacancy, will not result in any change of party control of committees or of the Senate itself under the current organizing resolution.

(Not to mention, even if the Senate GOP did attempt to force a change in the organizing resolution by shutting down the Senate - which would be a PR disaster - the Supermajority! in the CT legislature could always pass  a law requiring an immediate special election.)

All of this is a long way of saying - don't mind if Joe jumps onto the sinking ship... (but it's not going to happen).

joey will not run in 2012 (0.00 / 0)
The possibility of joey leaving early and Rell appointing his replacement is there no matter what.

The Republican brand in Connecticut is sufficiently tainted to level the playing field. A Republican incumbent in 2012 wouldn't necessarily get joey's 40% of Democrats.

It's time to tell joey to jump, and hand him an anvil. The swing is trending our way again.

If I had played cautious going up to the primary last August, I would have taken a neutral position, I wouldn't have nudged the DTC to support Ned at the convention nor put a resolution before the DTC castigating joey on not committing to support the chosen candidate. Ned beat joey 2 to 1 in town.

So,

I say jump. Tell joey to put up or shut up (he'll do neither)

Any Chance That The Desperate Republicans (0.00 / 0)
Will nominate Joe as VP on a"unity" ticket?

[ Parent ]
At the present rate and given the current field (0.00 / 0)
The republicans just might seriously consider running joey as their Presidential Candidate in '08. In fact, they could run joey as both the Presidential and Vice Presidential candidate.

joey two-times times two.

Not the first time (4.00 / 1)
In fact, they could run joey as both the Presidential and Vice Presidential candidate.

Think 2000 and his run for both VP and Senate.

Joe as AG (4.00 / 1)
With all this crazy speculation over Joe as AG and who Rell might appoint to take his place, don't forget what party Joe was elected from...the CFL. Therefore I think Rell should pick from the same party. Our elected officers are me, Doc Orman as elected chair, Jon K as Vice-chair and Sue H. as secretary of CFL.  Good luck governor Rell in selecting from our party Connecticut Fights Lieberman-CFL.

The CFL Party has a suggestion (0.00 / 0)
Connecticut for Lieberman Party
With all the speculation about who Jodi Rell would appoint, don't forget that many states appoint replacements which their party was elected from.
Lieberman is neither a Democrat nor Republican; he was elected under the Connecticut for Lieberman Party. We at the CFL Party nominate our own officers: John Orman, Jonathan Kantrowitz and Susan Henshaw as Lieberman's replacement.
