8/8/06 Memories Around The Blogosphere

My Left Nutmeg isn't the only blog reminiscing about last year's sweet victory on a hot day in August. I myself published a post this morning with a look back over at spazeboy.netHere's a link to many of Ned Lamont's radio appearances that I didn't include in my post -- consider it a My Left Nutmeg exclusive.

Connecticut Bob took a break from his break to post today:

Even though we didn't win in November, the political status quo was changed forever due in large part to Ned Lamont's heroic campaign.

And we'll always admire you for it, Ned!

Saramerica chimes in over at her Livejournal blog:

Ned Lamont might not have won the Senate race, but his courage in putting the Iraq War front and center was the spark that lit a fire of anti-war sentiment, resulting in the Dems taking back Congress. If only our Senators, who just passed the Survelliance Act, had Ned's cojones. If only Ned were our Senator....

CGG of MyDD, CT Local Politics, and a community member here posted my video re-cap of the primary at CTLP, with sparse commentary from her but interesting reader comments.

Scanman1722 over at DailyKos wrote a thesis on the primary!  His diary was posted earlier today, and draws comparisons to the current field of Democratic Presidential candidates:

Just like in Connecticut last year, the Democratic Party is split between two factions. Until Lamont, it seemed as if the faction headed now by Hillary Clinton always seemed to win. One year ago today, we changed that. It is time for us to make the Democratic Party more like us and less like the other guys. We've done it before, now let's do it again.

If you ever needed proof that Hillary was Bush/Cheney/Lieberman Light, all you had to do was watch her in last night's debate.

CTBlogger takes a look back over on ConnecticutBLOG.

In the comments of an earlier post here today, PsiFighter37 offers up a link to his DailyKos liveblog from primary night:

Lamont rocked the house, and there was so much energy in the crowd. We finally won one guys - but there's still much work to do on this race. For you guys, that means I'll be making more trips up to CT to help out.

I'll post a final comprehensive review tomorrow night - I'm extremely tired now, and I have to get started on the 90-minute drive home. Thanks to everyone for being here. I hope I made y'all feel as if you were here for this.

Damn, it feels good to win.

We should all take comfort in knowing that nothing has changed over at Dump Joe, a website that is unfortunately still necessary.

Are there any reminiscing or special memory posts that I missed?  Leave links and excerpts in the comments section!

Thanks for the memories! (4.00 / 4)
Wow, MLN is hopping today with the nostalgia.

Let me see, last August after Ned won the primary I was jumping up and down in our media room with joy. I also told my friends that night (who were not as politically motivated as I) that I would like to campaign for Ned to get LieberBush out of representing CT. If you look at when I registered here in MLN, the date gives you 8/10/06. But, I think I actually tried to register 3 days earlier (as in the eve of Ned's win). But, with the previous "3-day" rule of vetting "my account", I wasn't allowed to post until 8/10/06--my own personal MLN anniversary.

Nevertheless, I quickly discovered Ned's own blog and became a fixture over there (as Francis) as we battled trolls and encouraged each other to keep fighting for our collective progressive hero.

I know some of the commenters I 'met there' (blog-wise) carried over to here in MLN (like drowsy, PamB, joejoejoe, and CT Bob). I'm just wondering whatever happened to the others like Lochness and Mizquue?

excitement, exhaustion, extreme elated election (4.00 / 5)
I came home after working at the polls that day, completely exhausted both physically and mentally, sunburned, dehydrated and did something that I had not done in a couple of years and haven't done since - I cried. The point had arrived that there was absolutely nothing left anymore that I could do after pouring my heart and soul for so many months into getting Lamont elected. I had been running on strictly nervous energy for several days. I couldn't eat that night, hardly sit down and definitely not able to attend election headquarters. I anxiously waited for the election results. Although I joined MLN in early June that year, I mostly posted at Eschaton.com then and shared events there. Many many thank yous came from the posters there and even an offering of a free tarot card reading. I loved how this important election was being watched closely around the country and how many Eschatons had helped by sending in donations. My bouncing off the wall with the election results were quickly deflated with LIEberman's selfish concession speech. I fell asleep on the couch in my Lamont T-shirt. Afterwards, it made me more determined to defeat this lying monster, LIEberman, and I became more of a poster at MLN.
We have lost posters since last year and the November elections but many of us have remained. We are of all different races, ages, genders, sexual orientation and other differences but we all do share something together in common that is the most important part - we each have a beautiful caring soul. The bind of progressives is reaching out to help others and our planet. I feel a very close kindred with each of you. Each of us have contributed something here, no matter how small or unimportant you might think it is. In any family, we have our differences but we all circle the wagons together when it is time and that is what's important.
I thank each of you for being a part of this past year in exciting political blogging and look forward to all of us as a team continuing to change the political landscape in Connecticut and as we've shown before - the United States of America, as well.

I hope MLN'ers and other progressives realize that once the Democrats have crowned their nominee. Whoever she maybe. Ok, just kidding with that she bit. But, I wouldn't want to be brandished as an apologist for a 'polarizing' (or is that buying in too much to the 'vast right-wing conspiracy'?) figure if that time ever comes. Of course, if Edwards won, then I don't think I would have to work extra hard in apologizing in here.

Remember, the worst democratic candidate for president is still better (ok, maybe with the exception of Biden) than the best republican seeking the GOP nominee.

Circle the wagons (4.00 / 1)
I think the Democrats will have a tighter circle than they have had in years. We very much want to take back the White House after this nightmare!

I will absolutely support and work my butt off for whoever the Democratic nomination will be, however, I already know it will be Edwards!

"Connecticut Bob took a break from his break to post today" (4.00 / 3)
Beau, you're a frickin' poet! LOL!

Yeah, this day will forever be known as Lamont Day to me.

I feel incredibly lucky to have been even a tiny little part of that amazing event; and even moreso, I feel especially blessed to have had the good fortune to have met and worked with such awesome people!  As cool as it was to support Ned, it was even better to get to know and work with so many of you.

I will say this, with absolutely NO reservation:

You are the very best people I know!

Connecticut Bob

Hi Bob... (4.00 / 1)
you were one of the first bloggers I met in the beginning of Ned Lamont's primary campaign!  Your creative works will surely make the Bloggers Hall of Fame should one ever get built!  You were definitely a big part of Ned's campaign and even though I can relate to how you are feeling now, I sure hope it won't be long before you turn on your camera again ...maybe with the Jim Himes campign (hint, hint)... we'll need you!

With Their Primary Day Coverage, Bob and Kirby... (4.00 / 1)
...made me feel like I was there, even though I was over three thousand miles away at the time.  Thanks to you both.

Also, if I remember correctly, last year around this time, someone posted a comment to the effect that late on August 8 or early on August 9, Spazeboy became Spazeman.  Seems like an event almost as worthy of remembrance and celebration as Ned's primary election victory!

I'd forgotten about that until I watched the primary video again this morning.

Brief musing (4.00 / 3)
Well...all this dredges up so many memories and emotions, I cannot really summarize it all without more effort and time than I have today.  Missy's Brother, thanks...that is a beautiful narrative that really captures the atmosphere of last year.  I still cannot believe that primary victory was only a year ago - Crikey it seems like many years!  The wonder and triumph of one year ago still is wrenched by the November tragedy.  Nonetheless, to my last breath I shall remain as proud of our efforts last year as of anything I ever have undertaken [including M.S. and Ph.D. theses and 8 years of postdocs].

Anyway, I have bounced around a bit and reviewed some of the older news items on Ned's site.  Re-reading Sirota's "Learning From Lamont", however painful, also re-emphasized one point that seems to boil down ole Joe:  "Lieberman used not brilliance, but the most cynical brand of politics: confuse and conquer."  I shall continue to hope that this scumbag gets his comeuppance yet.  Speaking of which, has anyone heard from the FEC???

So thanks to you all for the massive efforts, and especially to Ned for volunteering to be the focus of our energy.  I have remained committed to the increased activism that I undertook primarily on behalf of Ned, and stand ready to re-engage in the future.  Let us all remember to...

ROCK THE BOAT!!!!

[Thanks again Ned!]

BFF (4.00 / 3)
All in all, a great 8 months from January to August, and then we had to really fight the power.

Some of us found eachother. Some of us found ourselves. All of us did the right thang.

Thank you, Ned, for running.

"I am not a Blogger...But I play one on the internet."

August 8th... (4.00 / 2)
will always hold a special place in my heart!  Ned's campaign was one of the most exciting campaigns I ever got involved in.  We put so much of our hope and personal time into something we knew was bigger than us. That evening when Ned came out to give us his victory speech, we all felt like winners!  The outcome of the General Election will never take away all those exhilarating months that led up to the most talked about primary nationwide! It was the beginning of People Powered Media that would forever change CT politics from being just a MSM event! It was a very special campaign; I met a lot of new friends who are now my best friends!  It definitely was the best of times...

One of the happiest days (4.00 / 4)
I'll never forget how thrilled I was on the night of last year's primary. Although it was difficult to pick up the pieces after November, I still treasure all the memories and friendships I made as a result of the Lamont campaign. I know I would have never gotten on my DTC were I not inspired by Ned's candidacy. A big thank you to Ned and to all those who worked on his campaign!

Anyway, I dug up a picture of this pro-Lamont pooch who proudly showed his support on primary night:
