"You take that play somewhere else!"

by: maxzook

I didn't think anything could have bettered Amy Goodman's interview with cast members of Voices In Conflict, but Erika Hiyazaki's piece in today's Los Angeles Times is the best account I've read of just what Bonnie Dickinson's Theater Arts II went through, and just exactly why the Wilton school administration, and some of their fellow students, ought to be ashamed of themselves.

Better was being at the final performance last night (0.00 / 0)
Especially the Q&A at the end.

The Vet, Mike, who went to one performance and now comes back and joined the cast on stage for the Q&A.

The Wilton resident who went to a polarized school board meeting and did not know what the right answer was, who said seeing the play made him "ashamed" to be a resident of Wilton (because of the school and board's decisions)

The gold star father who had the last word: This play should not stop here.

I am left with how inadequate high school education is if students are not allowed to discuss controverial issues.

Thanks for sharing that (0.00 / 0)
Bonnie Dickinson and the student actors should be very proud of themselves.

They've got my nomination for Progressive Heroes of the Year.

Another chance to See "Voices" 6-28 at Fairfield Theatre Company (0.00 / 0)
I am a longtime Wilton resident that has been appalled by the admin's handling of this, but heartened by my friend's and neighbor's and the larger community's responses.  In some ways, the admin did the rest of us a favor - had it not banned this play, the only showing would have been before a small group of parents.  Now - the play and the controversy have made headlines coast to coast and for good reason.
This Thursday, June 28 at 7:30, the Fairfield Theatre Company is presenting a final performance of “Voices In Conflict.”  Tickets are just $12 so DON’T MISS OUT ON THIS INCREDIBLE THEATRE EXPERIENCE WHICH HAS MOVED AUDIENCES IN CONNECTICUT, AT THE PUBLIC THEATRE AND ELSEWHERE. Get tickets now at http://www.fairfield...

****PBS will be filming the June 28 performance for future broadcast so this promises to be a particularly interesting night. Come be part of the live audience.
