Joe back on the CT Dems list, and Stuart Korchin changes the CFL Wikipedia page

You remember Stuart Korchin. He believes that he is the Chair of the Connecticut for Lieberman Party.

Cudos to Prof. John Orman for spotting this sudden change in our official
status

Connecticut for Lieberman is the political party created by twenty-five supporters of United States Senator Joe Lieberman, its sole candidate for office. The party was created to enable Lieberman to run for office in spite of having lost the primary election of the Democratic Party  to Ned Lamont. Connecticut election law gives preferred placement on the ballot to candidates affiliated with parties  Lieberman successfully defeated his opponents, including the Democratic nominee, Ned Lamont, in the Connecticut United States Senate election, 2006 Senate race

Some pro-Lamont blogs referred to the party as "Lieberman for Lieberman. (Dailykos.com, watchblog.com, author David Sirota, The Huffington Post).

The party was established on July 10, 2006, and began collecting signatures in case Lieberman did not win the Connecticut United States Senate election, 2006 Connecticut Democratic primary.

On November 15, 2006, John Orman changed his party registration from Democratic to CFL and, as the only member of the party, elected himself the new chairman of the Connecticut for Lieberman Party. Orman had briefly challenged Lieberman for the Democratic U.S. Senate nomination in 2006 (Critic delights in taunting Lieberman work, The New Haven Register, 11/20/2006 and Crashing the Lieberman Party, The New York Times, 1/12/2006)).

On November 15, 2006, John Orman changed his party registration from Democratic to the Connecticut for Lieberman Party. Orman, a bitter critic of Senator Lieberman, had briefly challenged Lieberman for the Democratic U.S. Senate nomination in 2006

On August 9, 2007, the day following the primary, Stuart R. Korchin changed his party registration to Connecticut for Lieberman, and created party rules which were filed with the Connecticut Secretary of the State.

  OUR CFL rules were typed, and posted  at DailyKos and Myleftnutmeg.com. That was alot of work. RChamberlain's original post of our rules is now gone, totally gone:

Some of the new rules passed by the new party chairman include:
1.If you run under Connecticut for Lieberman, you must actually join our party.
2. The party will nominate people for office who have the last name of Lieberman and/or who are critics and opponents of Senator Lieberman.
3. If any CFL candidate loses our party's nomination in a primary, that candidate must bolt our party, form a new party and work to defeat our party's endorsed candidate.
4. We in the CFL intend to run the same candidate for three different jobs at the same time, ie. House, Senate and Governor Connecticut.

On January 3, 2007, Connecticut Secretary of State Susan Bysiewicz recognized Orman's takeover of the party. According to Ted Bromely, a state elections attorney who works for her office, "If someone wanted to challenge it, they'd have to go to court.

This was immediately challenged by the existing party chairman, Stuart Korchin. 

  + On January 17, 2007, Korchin received a letter from a lawyer in the secretary of state's office, stating that the state had "very limited jurisdiction" over intraparty battles, and was not taking a position over just who was in charge. On January 18, 2007, the New York Times published an article correcting the earlier erroneous information.
 

Stuart, what erroneous information? Brian Lockhart of the Stamford Advocate pretty well sizes it up:

Cheshire resident Stuart Korchin, who attended Thursday's meeting, said he runs the party because he joined Connecticut for Lieberman last August after it was formed. The state has said that members could not join the party until the election results were certified in the fall.

Korchin did not remain for the election of chairman but Orman nominated him any way. Orman said Thursday's election settled the question of party leadership and its future.
