Firedoglake gains national recognition for Libby coverage

by: Scarce

Tue Mar 06, 2007 at 19:45:58 PM EST

Firedoglake, Jane Hamsher's blog, is getting overwhelming praise today, both from within the blogosphere and the traditional media for their work on the Scooter Libby trial and for the years leading up to today.  Glenn Greenwald had this to say last month:

It is virtually impossible to closely follow the Libby trial without relying upon the work of the blogging team assembled by Jane Hamsher and FireDogLake. Hamsher built FDL by becoming (along with her blogging partner, former prosecutor Christy Hardin Smith) literally one of the country's leading experts on the Plame scandal, long providing some of the most insightful analysis, and even breaking stories, on her blog.

While Jeff Jarvis at Buzz Machine noted the new dynamic. As did James Gordon Meeks (NY Daily News) on C-Span in the first clip I upped for Jane. The second clip is from today on Fox News where James Boyce (Democratic Strategist and Huffington Post contributor) squares off with Rich Lowery (The National Review) in typical Fox News fashion.

Marcy Wheeler's report from the trial today is the third clip. Anyone wanting a comprehensive look into this case ought to read her Anatomy of Deceit.

Brava! (4.00 / 2)
The FDL team has performed an outstanding service with their in-depth coverage of the entire Plame affair, from the original reports of the "outing" of Valerie Plame by the White House, through the Grand Jury process and the formal charging of Scooter Libby, and finally the trial and jury deliberation.

Jane, Christy, Marcy and the entire FDL team have explained this complex process better than any other media outlet.  They've helped legitimize bloggers and leveled the playing field with MSM journalists.  Well done!

That is the underlying story here (4.00 / 1)
Not only how well and thorough these bloggers were but also in many-- but certainly not all-- cases how much this story and case were impeded not just by conservative misinformation but by willful neglect on the part of the MSM.

Media Matters has their "Dishonor Roll" of "media figures and outlets that have distinguished themselves with their flawed coverage of the case."

It ain't pretty.

  * Headline writers
  * Media writer Howard Kurtz
  * Ombudsman Deborah Howell
  * Columnist Richard Cohen

# ABC News senior national correspondent Jake Tapper

..and the list just keeps going...

FDL proved they are head and shoulders above (4.00 / 1)
the MSM while proving  beyond a doubt GREAT and HONEST reporting can be done  without making believe you have no point of view like the MSM likes to pretend.

Thre weren't two equal Truths like the MSM tried to portray to the public to this case there was only one Truth and the Jury found it rather easily.

Nice job (4.00 / 1)
on rounding up the FDL coverage and singing their praises.  I saw it over on dailykos and thought I'd come here to say thanks.

They did a fabulous job!
