To understand what happened in this case and what this verdict means, I can't recommend anything better than Marcy Wheeler's "Anatomy of Deceit"

YAHOO!! (0.00 / 0)
Hopefully, Fitzgerald will use the standing grand jury to go after Cheney.  NO PARDONS!

Guilty, guilty, guilty, guilty (0.00 / 0)
Four felony counts.  CNN says he could be sentenced to up to 20 years in jail.

I can't help but remember that Julie Amero was also found guilty of four felonies because of freakin' spyware and faces 40 years, while Libby lied about the administration leaking the identity of a covert spy in order to protect their house of cards (lies) that got us into the war in Iraq.  Countless lives were put at risk and tens of millions of dollars in investments in covert infrastructure (like Valerie Plame's cover company) were ruined by the administration leaking her identity to the press.

Hope in our justice system (0.00 / 0)
It would be better if the he in this sentence referred to Cheney.

He faces a maximum penalty of 30 years in jail.

Impeach GWB; indict Cheney; ladies and gentleman, I present to you Madame Nancy Pelosi, our 44th US President from the great state of California.

Sorry, Hillary, you won't be first.

The arc of history is long, but it bends toward justice. --Martin Luther King, Jr.

25 Years (0.00 / 0)
I just talked to my Dad, who's an attorney. Getting off on Count 3 should clear Libby of five years. The maximum sentence would be 25 years, and that would be if Walton decides to run the terms in sequence, which is unlikely.

Scooter Libby should NOT be allowed to stay out of jail (0.00 / 0)
while he appeals this verdict.

I'm totally tired of rich white guys being treated differently then every other class of criminal.Get Scooters white ass in jail. today. He should have been handcuffed and  frogmarched and should be processed  in prison by the end of the day.b

Up to Walton (0.00 / 0)
Libby will be out on bail pre-sentencing, which is standard. The point where the judge's discretion comes in is whether Libby will be allowed to stay out on bail while his appeal is going on. If he is granted that courtesy, he will likely never set foot in jail if Bush pardons him at some point in time.

Brilliant! (0.00 / 0)
That was two minutes of pure joy!  I can't believe how much work someone put into synchronizing all the Peanuts clips to fit so perfectly.  I loved it!

...frickin' brilliant? This is genius, and just the shot of senseless joy I needed about now.

Harry Reid (0.00 / 0)
Harr Reid Calls For Bush to pledge not to pardon Libby:
"I welcome the jury's verdict. It's about time someone in the Bush Administration has been held accountable for the campaign to manipulate intelligence and discredit war critics. Lewis Libby has been convicted of perjury, but his trial revealed deeper truths about Vice President Cheney's role in this sordid affair. Now President Bush must pledge not to pardon Libby for his criminal conduct."

not enough (0.00 / 0)
Obstruction of a teason investigation is treasonous.

death

The question is not what you are, we already determined that, we are now negotiating price.

Treason does not always mean death (0.00 / 0)
It's very hard to prosecute anyone for treason (Thank God!). Still, did you know that even if you are convicted of it according to the United States Code:

TITLE 18 > PART I > CHAPTER 115 > § 2381 Prev | Next § 2381. Treason

Whoever, owing allegiance to the United States, levies war against them or adheres to their enemies, giving them aid and comfort within the United States or elsewhere, is guilty of treason and shall suffer death, or shall be imprisoned not less than five years and fined under this title but not less than $10,000; and shall be incapable of holding any office under the United States.

the crime of treason is not always punishable by death.

Unfortunately, it is not so hard for George W Bush to declare any of us enemy combatants. So, where should our real outrage lie?

Joe Courtney on Libby (0.00 / 0)
Via email press release:
"The jury verdict today emphatically confirms and condemns the pattern of deception and misinformation that has characterized the Bush-Cheney Administration over the last six years - particularly its handling of the war in Iraq. Special prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald deserves the gratitude of all Americans for his fearless pursuit of the facts and justice -even into the inner workings of the highest offices in the land."

In the end (0.00 / 0)
In the end, isn't it probable that the pResident will pardon I Scooter regardless of what the final verdict is?

Sorry, but I feel so disappointed today with the entire system.  We aren't out of Iraq, no where near...

The media is so controlled, and it is the final check in our truly unbalanced society.  We are too busy with our candidacy for President to actually make a real stand.  Okay, I could go on.  I wish I had a more positive attitude over something that should be pretty positive.

Will Fitzpatrick ever go after Cheney?

It was our own moral failure and not any accident of chance, that while preserving the appearance of the Republic we lost its reality. - Marcus Tullius Cicero, statesman, orator, writer (106-43 BC)

Congress should go after Cheney. (0.00 / 0)
And Bush. These two deserve impeachment over this illegal war more than the previous office holder over a stained blue dress.

The arc of history is long, but it bends toward justice. --Martin Luther King, Jr.

Pardon (0.00 / 0)
In the end, isn't it probable that the pResident will pardon I Scooter regardless of what the final verdict is?

Yes.  Libby and anyone else that happens to be connected to this by the end of next year will obviously be pardoned.
