Petition to "Save Progressive Talk CT." [WAVZ/1300]

by: J

Tue Feb 13, 2007 at 12:43:19 PM EST

(I'll front-page it, because I miss WAVZ a lot! I think Clear Channel wanted it to fail. I once called to get info about advertising and my call was never returned. In the meantime, 1600 am in NYC reaches some of CT. Here in Branford, the signal is spotty. - promoted by BranfordBoy)

http://www.thepetiti...

Say, by any chance could/would somebody please consider front-paging this?thanks BB

Target: Jerry Kristafer, WAVZ-Clear Channel
Sponsor: Monica Maglaris, save progressive talk CT

  * Signatures: 22 [as of 12:46 and counting]
  * Goal: 1,000
  * Deadline: Ongoing...

Petition text:

"We would like to once again enjoy listening to progressive talk radio in Connecticut. The majority of residents living in the greater New Haven area are not currently represented by the conservative talk radio that dominates our airwaves. The public owns the airwaves and both liberal and conservative viewpoints should be made available. Since the listening public lost THE VOICE 1300am, we have not been able to access the liberal viewpoint on radio. All Americans should be free to listen to the talk radio format with BOTH sides represented."

  Let's flood this thing, please!

Is this list replacing the state police's list? (0.00 / 0)
I don't want to get arrested the next time I drive past the governor's manse. It's up to 27. This reminds me of the first time I ever did one of these online petition lists with MoveOn.org's recount petition in Florida 2000.

Thanks BB! (0.00 / 0)
I believe this makes my first frontal...  ;-)

Unfortunately, still only 27 sigs.  I sometimes can get WWRL in my car [WLIB signal was much better], but not in the lab, and they don't carry Stephanie in the AM; her humorous talents *really* help lighten my moods in the morning.  All fine if I can sit at the PC and stream, but that is not always the case.  I'd actually enjoyed 'retrogressing' the technology to the airwaves...

I'd also developed the impression Clear Channel might have wanted it to fail.  Interesting anecdote re: the advert call(!).

Anyway, thanks again!

If you want progressive radio (0.00 / 0)
Conservative radio works because of advertisement, like all of radio. If you think your ideas will sell advertisement, by all means, start a radio station. That is how the conservatives  have done it.

No; they did not *start* stations, they BOUGHT them n/t (4.00 / 1)

Where's Lionel? He had the local radio show in the evening which I never listened to. I wonder if he has any insight? I also think they're still saying, "YOu've got Senator Joe Dodd and Joseph Lieberman..."

If anyone listened to WAVZ for more than two weeks, they'd quickly realize that there was absolutely no advertising department. Instead, they would play about four or five PSA's every hour. You would have learned:

1. The importance of trampoline safety.

2. Sausalito Mayor David Sicilini wants you to get your A1C checked, to avoid an increased risk of heart disease, kidney disease and amputation.

3. Matthew Mcconaughey sounds even hotter on the radio. Also, life is calling.

Seriously. Terrible. They weren't even trying.

Ring the bells that still can ring. Forget your perfect offering. - L. Cohen

God Damned petition site!  I specifically checked around the site (when they wanted my full contact information) and thought I determined that I was "signing" the petition, not "Joining" as a member.  (they reserve the right to email crap to "Members").  So they send me two emails and one is my membership password.  They said every email would have an unsubscribe link, this did not, I go to the site and to the member services and profile and there is nothing to get off the list.  Damn.

BTW, VtDay and all, I went to Blue Mountain Arts.  They offer free month then paid membership, wanted cr crd, I friggin join then the site won't let me send anything keeps asking me to join.  So I am cancelling, for that I have an email address.  Double Damn and time for bed.

I'd thought they had a page on which you could de-select specific petition types (0.00 / 0)
but I don't find it now as I look.  I'm terribly sorry this caused you grief, I know how annoying that gets.  Thanks for signing though!

Sorry again...
