Dodd's In

by: BranfordBoy

Wed Jan 10, 2007 at 17:42:20 PM EST

From MSNBC:

Democratic Sen. Christopher Dodd, a veteran lawmaker who entered Congress in the post-Watergate class of 1974, will announce his bid for the presidency, Democratic officials said Wednesday.

Dodd, 62, will make the formal announcement in an interview Thursday morning on the "Imus in the Morning" radio show -- a curious bit of timing since he'll be forced to compete with heavy coverage of President Bush's speech on the Iraq war.

Imus?? Gawd!

I hate Imus (4.00 / 1)
Not just because he's an oversimplifying moron either.  Remember that he's Joe Lieberman's favorite TV personality.

Christ, if this is any indication of how Dodd thinks he's going to succeed, he's already in trouble.

Oh well, at least we won't have to worry about Rell replacing him with a Republican.

Right On. (0.00 / 0)
Right on Bob, Imus STILL disses Bush and his war as idiotic but supports wholely Lieberman.  You would think that Dodd would have made broad efforts to solidify his base in CT first.  Sure he is popular, as Senator... how embarrasing, you know, for the few of the Dems each round who lose their home state in the Primary.

Lost (0.00 / 0)
So we lose both Senators in a day?  One we will miss, Dodd.
Doncha love Bush calling out Lieberman by name tonight as representing "bipartisan" support for his surge and commiteed to monthly meetings at the white house?  Yea, CFL and (a few) GOP= bipartisan.  Anyway, Dodd is gone.  We've lost him, off to tilt his 2008 windmill.  Too bad.  COW, Connecticut Opposes the War expects 3 or 4 of our five Congressmen at their open meeting 3:30pm Saturday, but Lieberman did not respond and Dodd's office said he would be out of state.  In the end, is there a difference between these two?  One lost to the dark side, his own side, and the other lost to the wandering trail?  By the way, DeLauro wants to meet with COW the next Saturday, but Dodd's folks cannot say when he will next be in CT.

Not So Fast... (0.00 / 0)
So we lose both Senators in a day?  One we will miss, Dodd.

I'm not so sure we've "lost" Dodd yet: Since he lacks the rock-star charisma of some of the other Dem front-runners, Dodd's best chance at getting any traction (IMHO) is to show real leadership in the Senate... which I think will be all to the good of progressive Dems here in CT.

BTW, am I the only one who thinks what Dodd is really running for is Vice President? Seems to me that an older, experienced, white male New England Senator would be a great ticket-balancer for any one of Obama, Clinton, or Edwards. Just a thought...
