CT-04: Dead Heat!

by: BranfordBoy

Tue Oct 24, 2006 at 13:18:30 PM EDT

From the Greenwich Time:

Support for Rep. Christopher Shays, R-Conn., is declining as concerns over the Iraq war increase -- placing him in a dead heat with Democratic challenger Diane Farrell, according to a Hartford Courant poll released yesterday.

The poll, conducted by the University of Connecticut's Center for Survey Research and Analysis, shows Shays and Farrell each pulling 43 percent of the vote with 9 percent undecided two weeks before Election Day.

Call your friends and family in the fourth. Get out there and help Diane.

Also, it's now official: the Green Party candidate withdrew and threw his support to Farrell.

I know Dems are happy about this. (0.00 / 0)
I am an unaffiliated so excuse me if I am a little disappointed the Green candidate dropped out of CT-04. I am guessing some Green voters will label Duffee a sellout whether he deserves the label or not.

I know that it increases the chances of Farell winning, which is a good thing for Dems the short run, BUT I really do believe that this country needs viable 3rd and even 4th party candidates to cut the legs out from under lobby groups, entrenched cronies, etc., and that would be good for the entire country in the long run.

Viable 3rd parties cannot solve all of the problems but they can help to keep the "other 2" honest. If ya know what I mean?

*IF* you are a Democrat and you "blame Nader" or a Republican and you "blame Perot", either way you missed the real point. (IMHO)

Money quotes in Stamford Advocate's article:

On the money 1:

Farrell, former first selectwoman in Westport, then criticized Shays for calling himself an independent because he has supported the Bush administration on the Iraq war and other foreign policy issues.

"I am the true independent candidate because I am independent from George Bush and the Republican majority," Farrell said.

On the money 2:

Shays' camp continued to criticize Farrell for holding a "closed-door" meeting with the Greens on Saturday.

1) Farell Slams shays ties to bush and Iraq failures.

2) The irony of a Republican, whose party had the oil industry write the energy legislation behind closed doors with cheney, and hundreds of other meetings behind closed doors that should have been public or at least had some sort of oversight/input from Dems, complaining about Farell meeting with Duffee behind closed doors...

Shays has lost his mind to bring that 2nd issue into his campaign. Then again, it is apparent that he lost it a while ago when all he could talk about was his "sex ring". lol
