Ned Lamont's latest ad

spazeboy :: Patriot
From Ned Lamont's website:
As we release our latest ad, "Patriot," Senator Lieberman has new friends releasing ads of their own: Allies of the infamous "Swift Boat Veterans." The group, "Veterans for Truth" has deep Republican ties, including former advisors to President Bush and is one of those mysterious 527 organizations shielded from disclosing individuals funding their effort.

These shadowy groups are part of the problem in Washington, D.C. Sign the letter asking Senator Lieberman to denounce the ads and get them pulled from the air.

The "Veterans for Truth" ad thanks Senator Lieberman for supporting President Bush and the Iraq War. But one Connecticut veteran shared his tale of Senator Lieberman's "support" in a letter to the editor of a local paper several weeks ago.

When Collin Halloran explained his unit had been issued sub-standard equipment, the response was that "[Senator Lieberman] left the impression that they believed we had the equipment we needed, despite the contrasting beliefs of soldiers in my battalion."

Read the letter below and forward it to your friends.

Update:  An e-mail from Tom Swan:

Dear [spazeboy],

What about President Bush and Senator Lieberman's leadership has proven their judgement to be worth one more life in Iraq?

How have they made us safer? What have they been right about so far?

When is a Senator's desperate attempt to cling to political power worth aligning himself with "Swift Boat Veteran" allies and pre-war partisan propaganda peddlers?

These are questions that demand answers.

Watch our new television ad and sign the letter asking Senator Lieberman to denounce his newest shadowy Republican ally's television ads.

I say shadowy because "Veterans for Truth" are one of those mysterious 527 organizations shielded from disclosing individuals funding their effort.

All we know about them is that pro-war propagandists like William Kristol and Dan Senor drive their public relation efforts. That's the same Senor and Kristol instrumental in packaging and selling a war based on lies and half-truths.

"Packaging and selling" ... quite appropriate when you consider Senator Lieberman recently voiced his only pre-war criticism of the Bush Adminstration: they "oversold the WMD part of the argument."

Justification for war as a sales pitch? Shameful.

Watch the video and sign the letter.

"Support the mistakes made by the Bush Administration and Joe Lieberman or you hate the troops."

Aren't you sick and tired of Dick Cheney and Senator Lieberman hiding behind the American flag when called defend the current course in Iraq?

It's disgusting, and it comes at the expense of reasonable political discourse about the issues that matter most to the people of Connecticut.

Yesterday, a dozen veterans signed a letter calling on Senator Lieberman to denounce his brand of guttoral politics. Can we count on you to watch our new ad and do the same?

Ned Lamont believes the war in Iraq has been a distraction from an effective war on terror, and that the US should fully implement the 9/11 Commission recommendations. He believes its high time for an immediate withdrawal of US troops from the front lines, allowing the Iraqi people to stand up and take control of their country and removing the US face from the occupation.

And so do we,

Tom Swan
Campaign Manager, Ned Lamont for US Senate

Now thats a Truth (4.00 / 2)
that needed to be said.

George W Bush and Joeseph Lieberman never met a war they couldn't back as long as it fought with other peoples childrens lives.

Excellent ad! Hardhitting and it will ruffle Lieberman's hubris again (0.00 / 0)
Expect Lieberman to call this negative campaigning, but I think this ad asks viewers to really question the reasons we went to war.

Any Discussion of Joe's Positions (0.00 / 0)
is called negative campaigning. It's absurd.

NEWS RELEASE (4.00 / 1)
Today Ned Lamont's U.S. Senate Campaign began airing a new television ad entitled 'Patriot.'

The bold new spot opens with a young man reading the names of some of the many brave troops who have died in the Iraq war. Filmed in Hartford, it is understated in tone, and does not end with the trademark crowd of other Lamont commercials.

"It raises the serious questions: What have Bush and Lieberman done to make our country safer?" said Lamont Communications Director Liz Dupont-Diehl. "We have not captured Bin Laden and violence is increasing in Afghanistan. We are not spending what we need to protect our ports and our country. Our National Guard is not at home to protect us against terrorist attacks or natural disasters. Our own military experts tell us a change in course is our best chance for success - yet Joe Lieberman and President Bush refuse to see the truth."

A 60-second version of the ad will air statewide for several days, followed by a 30-second version.

Lamont believes the war in Iraq has been a distraction from an effective war on terror, and that the US should fully implement the 9/11 Commission recommendations. He calls for an immediate withdrawal of US troops from the front lines, allowing the Iraqi people to stand up and take control of their country and removing the US face from the occupation. Under Lamont's plan, American troops would remain in the region and we would continue to provide logistical, training, and humanitarian support as asked. The U.S. Government would make it clear it has no designs on permanent bases in Iraq and that we would work closely with our allies to promote regional stability.

"For 3 1/2 years Senator Lieberman has been a reliable cheerleader for the Bush war, voting for every single off-budget appropriation and refusing to support a plan to end the war," Dupont-Diehl said. "His remarks on a Sunday talk show after an election-year conversion hardly constitute the change of course this country needs."

Lamont would never send troops into battle without body armor, and would provide needed funding for veterans benefits. "There will be no greater fighter for our troops in the Senate than Ned Lamont," Dupont-Diehl said.

Raising the stakes - by making the stakes clear (4.00 / 1)
To borrow Kerry's phrase, Ned is turning his boat directly into the Swift Boat attack. And he's doing it only a day after the Swift Boat ads started, unlike Kerry's fatal pause.

The best response here is to raise the stakes. To make voters understand and remember what is really at stake. This isn't about "bipartisanship" and "unity." It's about the Iraq War.

And it's about making sure that that #$@%! list doesn't get any longer than it needs to.

I like the Ad. (0.00 / 0)
We should do a reading of names like that! Who's up for it?

Iraq War: BIG mistake.

I'll bring the Iraq Memorial Wall (0.00 / 0)
I'll bring the Iraq memorial Wall.  It hasn't been updated since Memorial Day this year.

However ... its about time to sit down and take a few moments (ok lots of hours) to recall the men and women who have died in Iraq.

http://www.hopeoutlo...

Notice the 13th photo down.  That is some of us reading the names (that were current as of August 31, 2004).  The wall was located in the State of Connecticut in the LEgislative Office building for a month.

Let me know where and when

That is a (0.00 / 0)
beautiful piece of film-making. It is above and beyond mere advertising.

The Grumpy Old Guy (0.00 / 0)
is a perfect caricature of the Lieberman low information voter.  I hope that it resonates with the undecided.

OMG - This Ad Was Worth The Wait (0.00 / 0)
This is the very best television ad I have seen in my 43 years of existence.
