Joe's On The Ballot

by: BranfordBoy

Wed Aug 23, 2006 at 11:04:31 AM EDT

Susan Bysiewicz made it official. Connecticut for Lieberman candidate, the millionaire lawyer Joseph Lieberman, has submitted enough valid petitions to be on the November ballot.

Secretary of the State Susan Bysiewicz said Lieberman had 7,700 validated signatures. The campaign collected more than 18,500 signatures, but Bysiewicz's office stopped counting when employees determined Lieberman had enough names.

Wow, Lieberman barely made it on the ballot (0.00 / 0)
with only 8,215 valid signatures out of 18,000.

Source for that figure? (0.00 / 0)
The report says they stopped counting at 7,700.

You're both wrong. (0.00 / 0)
They stopped counting votes after validating 8250.

Social libertarian.

[ Parent ]
Why wouldn't they stop after counting 7500? (0.00 / 0)
That's all he needed.

I have a theory. (0.00 / 0)
Maybe they had multiple teams/people counting, and when one team handed in numbers that would push them to 7500, the other groups had votes already counted that pushed it to 8250?

Theory or not, the article clearly states:
"Secretary of the State Susan Bysiewicz said her office validated 8,215 signatures before employees stopped counting."

Social libertarian.

Really, eh? (0.00 / 0)
They did a really shitty job of collecting signatures, then.

Any plans to challenge the validity of these signatures? (0.00 / 0)

why bother? (4.00 / 1)
There should be a rapid response team that goes after all media though. Any media that states that Lieberman is an "Independent" should be hammered with multiple calls for correction every time it gets stated. Any media that referes to him in any way as a Democrat should be hammered as well.

Let's make sure that everyone knows that his is a vanity party and make sure that the media reports it as so.

Dear Editor,

Recently you reported that Joe Lieberman was [running as an Independent / an independent Democrat / ect.]. The reporting was incorrect. Joe Lieberman is a candidate of a vanity party called Connecticut for Lieberman. [There is an Independent on the ballot, and that is not Joe Lieberman. / There is a Democrat on the ballot and it is Ned Lamont.] A [newspaper / TV Station / radio program] like yourself is supposed to report information accuratly, please issue a correction of the misinformation you reported and in the future please refer to Joe Lieberman correctly as the vanity Connecticut for Lieberman party candidate.

Thank you for correcting this now, and in the future.

We have to hit this, and hit this hard. We have to stop the use of the terms Independent and Democrat when referring to Lieberman in all reporting. We want to make sure that everyone reports him as associated to the vanity party.

The question is not what you are, we already determined that, we are now negotiating price.

take out the word vanity (0.00 / 0)
you are right on the money except for the one word.  Vanity is editorializing on our part.

Connecticut for Lieberman candidate Joe Lieberman suffices.

Joe Lieberman and George Bush believe that our govt should cut and run on capturing Osama Bin Laden so that Bush and the neocons could invade Iraq. Despite no Wmds and no links to 9/11, Lieberman supports that decision.

How do we do it? (0.00 / 0)
Do we, as CT residents, have the ability to examine the signatures, possibly challenging some?

I would certainly like to check to make sure some joker didn't sign my name on the damn thing.  And if we did find some that were fake, it would be a good story, even if we didn't get enough stricken to invalidate the whole petition.

Who do we call, and how do we get copies of the sigs for our towns? I would think that be the way to approach it.

When they finally pass it... (0.00 / 0)
they can call it "Joey's" Law.

What happened... (0.00 / 0)
about the issue that the people taking the signatures had to be CT citizens? Were Joe's college Repukes out of staters that took the petitions around??

Kicking Joe out of the Democratic Party (0.00 / 0)
I watched Cafferty today on CNN, and he was no friend of Joe.  He acted disgusted that Lieberman was getting on the ballot for a second try, and he suggested that Connecticut voters were getting sick of Joe. He showed the latest poll movement in Ned's favor, pointing out Joe and Ned were neck and neck. Cafferty didn't suggest that Democratic voters were out of line for trying to kick Joe out of the party since Joe was running against the chosen Democratic candidate. No one is going to feel that Joe Lieberman is somehow getting deprived of his constitutional rights.  It just sounds like whining.  I would tell those peace activists to go for it.
