Bysiewicz Speaks

by: BranfordBoy

Wed Aug 23, 2006 at 09:53:39 AM EDT

Secretary of the State Susan Bysiewicz has called a press conference for 11 am today (Aug 23) to discuss "Senator Lieberman's candidacy, as well as the efforts of other petitioning parties seeking to get on the ballot for statewide office."

It's in room 104 of the State Capitol, in case any of you are within striking distance.

Stay tuned.

Hope? (0.00 / 0)
Is there any chance Joe won't make it? I seriously doubt it, but given the performance of the Lieberman campaign over the last six months, it would be a fitting end to his campaign. Again, I'm not holding my breath, but here's to hoping...

Disclosure: I'm proud to work for the Service Employees International Union

It seems like he will (0.00 / 0)
I think on dKos, they did a project one day where they were calling up the town clerks, and it seemed like Joe would be on course to be well over the necessary 7,500 mark.

Something like this anyway. Maybe another line for write-in candidates?

Truly (0.00 / 0)
"Thy name is vanity.."

Lieberman formed the party soley for the explcit reason not to be lumped in with "Other" on the ballot for write-in candidates.

I suspect it will be a shock for many Connecticut voters to see his name at the bottom of the ballot listed fifth (it would have been even lower without this pseudo-party), which will lose him another few percentage points at the polls in November.

I think the ballot is by party, then petitioning... (0.00 / 0)
So,

Top to bottom it would be:
Democrat
Republican
Green
Independent
Connecticut for Lieberman
petitioning candidate
petitioning candidate
etc.

And then left to right, starting with the top of the ticket, the candidates. Can't remember if the Governor and Lt. Governor is the top of the ticket with Senate third. Governor and Lt. Governor were top of the ticket for the primary.

At any rate, Lieberman is buried on the ballot. It makes it easier for Republicans to simply overlook him and just pull the lever for the party line. This is partly why I think Schlesinger is going to take more of the Republican vote than the pollsters are measuring.

Susan told me yesterday (0.00 / 0)
that all the petitioning candidates were going to be on the ballot.  I may have mis-heard, but definitely the Green Party and Conn. for Lieberman will be on the ballot, and most likely the Independent candidates as well.

It would be pretty pathetic if an 18-year incumbent couldn't get 7,500 valid signatures...no matter how lousy he is.

My bad (0.00 / 0)
...Independent candidates didn't qualify for a spot on the ballot.  I should have listened more carefully or clarified specifically.

Republican Party would be the top line (0.00 / 0)
Because the Party holding the Governor's office gets line 'A'.

didn't I hear (0.00 / 0)
there was a Working Party candidate and a Liebertarian?

Maybe I am wrong, but I hear Susan on Colin & bruce and thought she said something about that.

That would push ole Joey even further down.
