Orman's After Lieberman, Too

by: BranfordBoy

Mon Aug 21, 2006 at 20:29:29 PM EDT

It''s not just the peaceniks. Now erstwhile Senate candidate and poli-sci prof John Orman is after Lieberman.

John Orman, a Fairfield University political science professor and a former Democratic candidate in the Senate race, filed complaints with the Secretary of the State's Office and the State Elections Enforcement Commission accusing Lieberman of creating "a fake political party" to resuscitate his re-election bid.

"He's doing anything he can to get his name on the ballot," Orman said.

Lieberman campaign spokesman Dan Gerstein said Lieberman has followed the law in his re-election campaign. "This is dirty politics at its worst," Gerstein said of Orman's complaint.

By filing a formal complaint, Orman leaves himself the option of pursuing the matter in the courts. No wonder Danger Stein is so upset. Imagine! Someone having the audacity to exercise his legal rights!

Orman on the radio (4.00 / 1)
Colin McEnroe interviewed Prof John Orman (mp3 audio) about his challenge to Lieberman's presence on the ballot with the Secretary of State's office.  He argues that Lieberman created a "fake" political party - that he has no real intention of forming a party with rules and a platform.

Lay off Our GOD JOE (4.00 / 2)

Dan Gerstein: Idiot (4.00 / 2)
Gerstein took issue with Orman's claim that Lieberman is wants "a do-over," bending the rules so he can run twice for the same race.

"It's not a do-over," Gerstein said. "It's just like saying that Ned Lamont got a do-over after he lost the convention."

Lamont was able to primary Lieberman because he received more than 15 percent of the vote at the May 20 convention.

Hey Dan,

Lamont won the right to appear to contest the Democratic primary with Lieberman.

Joe Lieberman lost the primary and is slipping through on a loophole in the system.

Win Lose at Convention (3.00 / 1)
Also I'm thinking Joe LOST at the Convention, by not getting >85% support of Democrats!

Failed to Clinch at the Convention
Lost in the Primary
Joe now wants a Do-Over...
oh yea, like the 2004 national ticket race was a Do-Over of 2000 loss!

SEEC responds (4.00 / 1)
The SEEC's director speaks on this challenge:

The other complaint was made to the State Elections Enforcement Commission claiming that Lieberman is not starting a real political party and therefore should be removed from the ballot.

The Executive Director says that's not going to happen, that Lieberman has every legal right to petition his way on to the ballot.

issue (4.00 / 6)
well, of course, joe has "every legal right" to petition his way onto the ballot--but he should be honest and petition as an independent candidate (eight or ninth place on the ballot) and not create a bogus new party for the sole purpose of moving up a few lines on the ballot to the fifth spot.

That's the issue. CT for Lieberman isn't a real party. It's a facade whereby Joe can secure a higher spot on the ballot.

Has anyone seen the CT for Lieberman platform anywhere? What are the party rules?

Lieberman for Lieberman Party (4.00 / 2)
I saw the list of 25 or 30 founders.  Let's republish that with what issue positions they are known for.  I can name opposition to gay marraige and the Connecticut Civil Union law for one and pro school vouchers for another.

freudian slip (0.00 / 0)
in my comment above, I wrote that Joe "should be honest and petition as an independent candidate". I meant to write that Joe "should be honest and petition as an individual candidate".

it appears that the mainstream media attempt to brainwash readers into believing that Joe is an independent candidate negatively impacted my subconscious...so I have to make amends.

He ought to run as an individual candidate instead of creating phony party.

Is there a way we can find out what the party rules are for the CT for Lieberman party? Is that public info?

does Joe have the right (3.50 / 2)
to use 'Captive Audiences" to get signatures for is petitions.Thats what happened at Foxwoods.People were put in a Room and their Bosses "asked" them if they would like to sign a petition after they were told the casino was supporting Lieberman.

I have copies of all the CT of Lieberman petitions for Simsbury (3.50 / 2)
There are 84 pages with names from Simsbury, should these be posted?  They are public documents once the town clerk certified them.  Some have one or two signatures ... some have lots.

I keep wondering who signed these petitions and what they were told when they were asked to sign.

Thats being worked on I believe (3.50 / 2)
But if their are any names you recognize as eleced Dems I would love to see those and make that info public.

I wonder if James Amann signed one of those.

Why does Ken Dixon piss me off? (0.00 / 0)
Today's CT Post:

Lieberman charged that supporters of Ned Lamont, the Greenwich businessman who won the Aug. 8 Democratic Senate primary, were behind the effort to embarrass the three-term senator in his New Haven hometown.

Ken, where is the Lamont rebuttal?

Also, a Fairfield University professor who unsuccessfully challenged Lieberman's simultaneous run for the Senate and vice president in 2000 filed a complaint Monday in an attempt to kill the senator's run as an independent.
State election officials said it is unlikely that professor John M. Orman will succeed in the attempt to terminate Lieberman's petitioning candidacy.

Ken, honey, the senator is not running as an independent, as you noted IN YOUR OWN ARTICLE! I've searched Google news for any names of these 'unnamed' officials - nothing, nada. Do you just make this sh## up?

Lamont said the president's plan to stay away from Connecticut this election season helps Lieberman, who backed Bush on pursuing the war in Iraq but in recent days has tried to position himself as opposing the current state of the conflict.

Ken, the President has a 38% approval rating. Tell me again how this would help him?

This is what Lamont actually said:

"It seems like a de facto endorsement of Senator Lieberman to me, yes," Lamont told reporters in the state Capitol parking lot.

Does anyone see the word 'help' there? Is it me, or is this guy as dumb as a rock?

OK, so I was wrong (0.00 / 0)
on that last point. But I still don't like the guy.

Joe off the ballot? (0.00 / 0)
If Joe were the man of principle he always says he is, he would not be trying to get on a ballot, period.  He would do what Ned said he would do, i.e. support the winner of the Primary!

So if he wants to get on a ballot, then let him do it ethically.  Instead of trying to call himself an Independent Democrat or some rot like that, let him call himself what he is !  A Party of One.  No Platform, no adjenda, no vision.  Just a silly made up egotistical name !

Has everyone seen the 2 polls out today, btw?

Lamont within 2 points !  Lamont blog has it up.
